Judge Biery signed the order with a photo of Liam and two bible verses: The first is "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." The second is simply "Jesus wept."

Astonishing thing for a judge to do.

No need to imagine. The country incarcerates children as young as 9 years old daily in youth prisons and jails. Those children are routinely sexually and physically assaulted and also emotionally tortured. They are fed terrible food and given barely any education. This country has done this for yrs.

I always recommend people spend less time consuming news and more time with long form journalism. Well, this is one of the best things you'll read. It's a hopeful story that has long been inspiring to me, and it's told beautifully here: www.gq.com/story/walpol...
It Was the Most Violent Prison in America. Then the Guards Went on Strike
What happens when a group of incarcerated men are left to self govern? In Walpole State Prison in 1973, “peace reigned”—until the guards were sent back in.

TOMORROW, Seattle! If you can attend this town hall at 4:30pm Monday 1/26, please do!

This will be a chance for folks to discuss Seattle's response to federal threats/ICE, including the city's surveillance apparatus. I'm hearing there will be a listening component.

15,000 people in WA prisons can't vote. A new bill aims to change that
Advocates say restricting incarcerated people from voting while they’re completing felony sentences undercuts constitutional values and enables racial injustices.

Do you know how hard it is to get cops to seemingly side with people shot by a bunch of officers
Minneapolis Police Chief O'Hara: "The video speaks for itself. We have identified this person - 37-year-old, white male, resident of the city. The only interaction that we are aware of with law enforcement has been for traffic tickets and we believe he is a lawfully gun owner with a permit to carry"

ICE has kidnapped so many people from their cars that the city had to put out this statement. Let that sink in.
Vehicles that are abandoned due to an ICE detention and towed to the City's impound lot will be released to their owners or a representative at no cost.

Rubio is claiming that they did not need Congress permission because it was a law enforcement mission. The US is behaving as a global police state, extending its own arbitrary legal decisions to the whole world.

This is not a problem just for Venezuela.

tonight I learned, from the Seattle Times' lawsuit alleging Seattle police violated state public records law and a settlement with the Times, that SPD rushed to respond to a KOMO records request, providing documents in less than a month that a Times reporter had been waiting on for almost 2 years.

We need to hold elected officials accountable for votes that go against their campaign rhetoric. See screenshot below from 2023 campaign season @hacksandwonks.bsky.social interview.

In a district that Katie Wilson won by 16 points we really need a more reliable progressive voice in D3.
