Data is good. But it is no match for deliberate ignorance!
WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you HAVE TO WATCH this news story. You actually can’t make this up. Ford claims without evidence that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.
Annex businesses tell Ford to back off Bloor bike lanes
Stores in the Annex say the Bloor bike lanes have been a big boost to business. As Michelle Mackey reports, the neighborhood's BIA wants the province to back off its new bill that could see the lanes ...

"Every time someone rides a bike—for transportation, for joy, for health, for protest, or for survival—they’re moving through systems shaped by public policy, power, and priorities. Who gets safe streets. Who doesn’t. Who breathes clean air. Who is protected—and who is put at risk"

Industrial carbon pricing is one of the most cost-effective tools Canada has to maintain competitiveness, diversify markets and cut emissions. Calls to weaken or eliminate this policy get some fundamentals wrong. Here are the facts ⬇️🧵

I didn't think I could dislike the American president more than I already did, but today he's descended to a new level of my loathing.

The old world order is dead. And dead with it is Canada's friendship with the US.

While we aren't adversaries - may that never be so - we aren't friends any more.

The AI bubble needs to burst. Its use-case is limited, but its harm-inducing uses are limitless. We need to corral this technology and ensure it is USEFUL to human flourishing. Like the Luddites of old, we need to make sure this tech benefits people, and doesn't replace/harm people.
“our tech doesn’t do any of the things we claimed the past few years, but we still need you to use it or the line will go down”
I was present for the birth of the web, the explosion of personal sites, and the blogging revolution, and you know what we never had to do? Beg people to use our shit.

Hmm...Maybe Canada ought to join the EU? Canada has far better access to critical minerals than Greenland. We have a far larger arctic region than Greenland 🇬🇱. And we have a massive shared border w/ the US. So, if tRump wants 🇬🇱, then what holds him back from taking 🇨🇦, as well?

It is a SNOW DAY in Toronto. All elementary schools, high schools, and child care centres based out of those schools are closed!

Already the kids and I are making grand plans for snow forts, tobogganing, and chasing the dog 🐕 through steep snow banks.

Should be fun!

But be safe out there!

Canada knows that if Greenland falls we are next. You can bet that Canada will be putting troops on the ground if Denmark issues Article IV of the NATO charter.

There's no chance that I'd willingly buy an American product clothing these days. I feel somewhat conflicted about this because there are a lot of great American artisans and designers, but I can't bring myself to support an economy that is being directed by a President to annex us.
Go Canada 🇨🇦
talked to the owner of a denim company that produces jeans in the US. he said that he's seen declining sales abroad in EU and Canada. stores tell him that customers don't want to buy MiUSA products bc Trump makes dumb, pointless threats like "taking over Canada or Greenland"

Trump lived off Russian mob money. He invaded Venezuela for the oil.
He's a gangster who claims, "American dominance in the Western Hemisphere will never be questioned again."

Dangerous (and Trumpy) nonsense.

The courts exist to interpret and protect our rights — even, and maybe especially, the unpopular ones.

The fact that they aren’t elected is a *good* thing.

The best analysis I've heard & read is that the MOU b/w Alberta & Canada will *maybe* build a pipeline (which is terrible, IMO), but *definitely will* generate a "national energy grid" that incentivizes non-fossil-fuel-based, independent power generation that'll electrify Canada. I truly hope so!
As far as I'm concerned, the game, and the board, and the prize, is a national energy grid. Which is what the MOU *really* puts into motion, while everyone is obsessing over hypothetical pipelines.

National energy grid + renewables + grid level storage = fossil fuels becoming a niche commodity.
And again, I'm one of the people who think betting hard on oil right now is a bad idea. I've written *many* columns on that.

It's not what the Carney is doing. He's doing the opposite: implementing policies (industrial carbon price, tax credits, interties) that accelerate electrification.

As I say here, this is not about saving the planet. The planet will be orbiting the sun long after we’re gone.

The question is, will there be a healthy, thriving human society on that planet? The answer to that question is very much up for grabs at this point.

Watching Avatar w/ my two eldest & their reaction to the destruction of Hometree is visceral.

Though it is just a fictional story, it tells such important truths about our world, and my kids understand it:
