People who never read books now in charge of books.
A social media post featuring two tweets. The first tweet by Anne Applebaum states that every book published in the United States is sent to the Library of Congress, and mentions age restrictions for using the reading room. The second tweet from Acyn quotes a reporter asking why the president fired the Librarian of Congress, followed by a response addressing concerns about actions taken regarding the library and children’s books. The background includes the White House press briefing setting with a lectern and flags.

It’s weird to live in a time when basic principles like cruelty is wrong, cheating is empty & the idea that curiosity, generosity, originality, the satisfaction of earned accomplishments & loving intimacy are the center of a good life feel like countercultural concepts

How do these guys go home and look at their children in the eye after tearing apart an entire family? The United States is an absolute despicable country. 😡
ICE is the American equivalent of Gestapo.

You MUST watch this exchange from today’s Tx House debate on anti-library HB3225.

“This is about your desire to make sure that children have access to sexually explicit materials,” says the bill’s author.

“Rep Alders, do you know what I have done for a living?” Says @voteannjohnson.bsky.social

Fun fact: Under the Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. sec. 407, two copies of every copyrighted book must go to the Library of Congress.

So she was dismissed because of the Copyright Act and the fact that not every book is appropriate for children.

Got it, Klaus Barbie.

Reporter: The president fired the Librarian of Congress. Why?

Leavitt: There were quite concerning things she had done at the Library of Congress in the pursuit of DEI and putting inappropriate books in the library for children.

This isn’t over by a long shot. There are hundreds of innocent people left to bring home, and Kilmar’s case is still playing out. But we want way more of this, Democrats: speak up, speak out, DO YOUR JOBS

I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s case is about a pattern that goes all the way back to the earliest lynchings, and has profound implications for the US: False Urgency / Illegal Action / Story Change.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia is just the latest example of this very American pattern.

The Librarians is a must-see documentary about the recent history of book banning in the US
jessicagoudeau.bsky.social
The number of lies Trump, Bukele, and Stephen Miller are telling today about Zelenskyy (who didn't start the war, Russia did) and Abrego Garcia (who absolutely can and should be released immediately--the US government ADMITTED they falsely deported him) should be stunning. Should be.
