That's just stunning. And impressive how he receives it. I have a Nooelec sdr sitting around doing nothing, could be a fun project.
Today's "blue marble" shot from GOES-18. As received and processed with my own @Nooelec-based ground station here in Vancouver, via 1.7 GHz radio signal. Near the satellite's solar noon, 2030 UTC / 1:30 PM PDT.

Computer literacy including basic coding concepts will be an increasing part of many careers, so while programming as a career may wax and wane, having some skills will never be a negative.
This is why you don't design curricula around "jobs of the future".

We can't predict the future but we do know what general skills and knowledge will be valuable whatever job you do.
‘Learn to code’

Should’ve done a proper degree like sociology or political science

ok this is so good. Especially this incredible little game where you draw an iceberg on the screen and it will rotate it around until it's in its stable orientation. 🤯 joshdata.me/iceberger.html

This is a professional crisis and I'm not sure what to do about it.
Oof. Membership in the American Association of Physics Teachers has dropped by 60% since the aughts. #iTeachPhysics

Kid has an English assignment, where school has kids first submit essay to an "AI checker." Kid did not use AI. AI checker says the use of the word "devoid" magically turned essay into 18% AI written. Changing "devoid" makes it drop to 0%. We're spending time "un-AI-ing" an essay that has no AI.

This website for Misconceptions of Electricity is absolutely worth a read.

Invaluable to me back when I taught about electricity at a science museum. Written by William Beaty.

My friend at UT Austin reports campus lawyers have instructed individuals and departments to scrub public websites of any reference to diversity, equity and inclusion. Her whole job is researching UT's resistance to desegregation. Things are bad, y'all.

I was able to do two of my favorite things as a teacher last week.
1. You know when a student comes to you having done the work well, but it's complex and still new so they want to check to be sure? I love when that happens and I can celebrate that moment of validation with them.

A really nice write-up of the discovery and implications of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), including lots of anecdotes from R. Wilson (1 of the 2 discoverers). It's basically impossible to overstate the importance of the CMB for our understanding of cosmology & the Universe's evolution. 🧪🔭

A half-century ago, a radio telescope in Holmdel, N.J., sent two astronomers 13.8 billion years back in time — and opened a cosmic window that scientists have been peering through ever since.

Another great #iteachphysics project-in-a-picture. Especially if the physics of music is already part of your curriculum.
