Wanting to be thin isn’t a fringe perspective, nor is it edgy. It is the dominant narrative in a profoundly anti-fat culture. And in this particular moment, making media about how it’s okay to want to be thin also acts as de facto advertising for some of the wealthiest corporations in the world.

LRP This is a big reason I can't stand male-dominated hobby spaces and shy away from those hobbies; I just want to relax and have fun, man, I'm not going to sit there and get yelled at for not doing (or owning) the optimal whatever. Why would you turn hobbies into work?

There was a genesis to this phenomenon I've never seen spoken about.

8-10 years ago I used to be in a lot of online hobby spaces. They had long had a 'optimisation culture' where a many folk didn't do stuff guided by enjoyment, but by following an 'optimal' path....

While independent bookstores are giving out free whistles, hosting protest sign making events, and donating proceeds to mutual aid, Amazon is *checks notes* providing technology that assists ICE in their terrorizing of communities.

Independent bookstores deserve your support. Amazon does not.

I say this often, but these folks and their supposedly frictionless technologies are the most antisocial people imaginable. The technology is an thinly veiled excuse for their power fantasies where they never have to interact or deal with another human being.

Some of us are dying [having to restart the level] out here
(And also if it is that Carbuncle game, I see we're getting yet another one soon on Eggconsole and I am so in)

Oh, absolutely agreed! I was young enough when I saw the first one that it was the high watermark for romance for me after that.

Oh yeah, definitely. I'm not exactly a film connoisseur, but the Before trilogy is one of my favorites in large part because it's just him (and the equally phenomenal Julie Delpy) talking.
