This is a great question. It is not necessarily just the five minute presentation but also the opportunity to meet other scholars in similar fields, which is very valuable. However, whether there are actual opportunities to connect varies significantly from conference to conference.

Is it just me, or do you consider it a bit outrageous to ask PhD students (or others) to travel to a conference, often out of state/province/country, to present for 5 mins?

This is a great question. It is not necessarily just the five minute presentation but also the opportunity to meet other scholars in similar fields, which is very valuable. However, whether there are actual opportunities to connect varies significantly from conference to conference.

Quite an interesting and insightful article that analyses the history of evangelicalism and mainstream Christianity in the US.
These statistics surprised me. I wonder if Canada is similar. If so, it speaks to the need for more services, supports and public education.

Amazing game last night. What an exciting win in overtime. I watched on TSN+. I didn’t see anyone I knew when the camera panned the audience but I am sure many former teammates from my many years of recreational hockey were there to cheer and to support the new professional team.

Looks like a great documentary. Playing in Vancouver right now. Maybe in other Canadian cities? Although the documentary focuses on the US, The Tyee is a Canadian newspaper and the article points out Canadian implications.

More on the sandwich case. Defense questions the police officer on whether the sandwich exploded. The thread reveals that the police officer was also asked about gag gifts that the police officers gave each other related to sandwiches and felonies. Is there any lesson I can use in my crim law class?
The defense team presses Lairmore on whether the sandwich really 'exploded.' They return to the photo of the sandwich and wrapper on the ground.
