This is actually a good example of why the customer model is wrong.

I wouldn't have chosen poetry writing, but UNC made me take a class. And it absolutely made me become a much better writer, with an eye to concision and an ear now trained to the rhythm of words. I'm a better historian as a result.
If you are providing me with an education that is low utility in the world then it’s a disservice. My composition class spent four weeks on poetry. I’m sorry, but that only would’ve been useful if I wanted to be a poet. I don’t need to know iambic pentameter in order to be a victim advocate.

Google is on record denying this story, but we all know the question is not if but when, and also, if anything is going to make me less inclined to use "AI" than I already am, it'll be the attempt to shove ads into it

EXCLUSIVE: Google Tells Advertisers It’ll Bring Ads to Gemini in 2026
The discussions mark the first time advertisers have heard directly from Google about monetizing its Gemini AI chatbot

Some shameless self promotion here… but if you’re interested in using @wikipedia.org @wikieducation.bsky.social in the classroom, I co-wrote an OPEN-ACCESS chapter on this very topic with Chelsea Gardner available here www.taylorfrancis.com/chapters/oa-... 👇🏻

Those who know me know I'm as interested in the future as I am in the past. With that in mind, I was fascinated to read that dark matter may have been detected in our galaxy! (Link below)

Give the gift of survival
Hey, if you're feeling thankful for all the bounty in your life right now, it's not a bad idea to toss some coin to trans people who are struggling. (I boosted two folks that I know personally just now, but there are so many, many others on here.)

Piggybacking off of this: the quality of stuff after each session reads more like "alpha draft" than merely talking heads*—that is, much better quality and easier to fix on the next pass.

*I used the subsequent dash to make the people for whom its mere existence indicates AI turn apoplectic.

I guess I now have to do a thread on shoes in ancient Mesopotamia in response to this (which happens to be from one of my favourite accounts).

I’m not an archaeologist, nor do I really know anything about shoes, but let’s go on this journey together.
can't believe this ancient mesopotamia shoe wearing ass said people need to dress up at the airport

I am a dev and I dislike AI because

•it cannot operate without stolen data
•it does not work reliably
•it lies all the time
•it is terribly inefficient
•it pollutes
•it is/was oversold
•the biggest frauds champion it
•the people behind it are psychos

none of these are unreasonable complaints
