“Lasting peace demands accountability and equal rights to freedom and self determination for all.” The ceasefire is a step in the right direction, I hope. It’s a long road ahead.

Your jokes about Trump are extremely insensitive to those of us who are also bereft that we didn’t get the Nobel peace prize

Just look at this ghoul’s face while someone pours their heart out in a vulnerable fashion. No empathy. Just smugness. These people are monsters.

SPEAKER MIKE JOHNSON CALLED OUT ON AIR:

'my kids could die if you don't stop playing games with our healthcare'

I grew up with a narcissistic father. To this day even after years of no contact, I still struggle with hearing his voice in my head. “You’ll never be as smart as me,” “Looks like you’ve gained a few pounds,” “why didn’t you try harder?” I realize all of those sayings are more about him than me.

I don’t care to compare specific restaurants with one another to figure out what’s “best,” because that’s subjective, but I do love trying each restaurant’s versions of particular dishes. For Indian restaurants, my go to dishes are samosa chaat, chicken 65, and dal tadka. Do you have go to dishes?

Watching TV has become so convoluted. I thought watching the Tigers playoff game was going to be easy tonight. WRONG. I subscribe to multiple services but not FUBO, SLING, FOX SPORTS, OR whatever other service that’s out there. Not trying to take out a mortgage to watch a baseball game at home.

This is a lost art. My grandmother used to cook all day on random weekends not just for celebrations. She would WANT to make something special and have her family over to share in that. The food & family was the celebration.

Norberto made this point as well. I’m fascinated by the number of ingredients, the melding of Mexican culture with colonial influences, and the calm in the seemingly chaotic mix of a wide array of flavors that somehow blend together beautifully

In the restaurant, it is served over chicken or chicken enchiladas. Back home, he told me that mole is often a celebratory dish served at weddings. Rather than chicken, mole will be served over turkey.

My grandpa & I c.1984(?) He was a stoic man. I do remember him being very nice & caring. He taught me a love of cured meats. We would share mortadella, salami, capicolla, prosciutto and he would just smile. His favorite sandwich was mortadella & mustard on seeded Italian bread.

Chef Norberto Garita from El Barzon in Detroit showed me how he makes his family’s mole. With over 20 ingredients & multiple hours of work, this was one of the most impressive processes I’ve witnessed in my 30+ years of kitchen experience. It’s all love.

As I reflected about my mom’s passing 17 years ago today, I was trying to recall her favorite foods. She loved sweets. Baking was her peaceful place. Brownies were her favorite, so we ordered a brownie for dessert. It’s a small, meaningful gesture that brought a lot of comfort.

This is all speculation, of course, and the length of time hasn’t made this any less confusing. Add to that, when she became sick, my mom and I were just starting to form an adult connection where we were forming a friendship on top of the mother child bond. That was ripped away.

Since she was diagnosed at stage 4, there was little hope for her survival. However, we were never given an indication of how her health was progressing or regressing. As I reflect back, it almost seems like we were purposely left in the dark.

Of course, I have no way to confirm this. When my mom was diagnosed, I was recently married to my ex-wife. Trying to start our married life was possibly a reason for my parents not to bother us even though this made things far more confusing.

My dad, who has fallen into sickness this last year or so, is a malignant narcissist. My mom died of colon cancer at the age of 50. No family history of cancer. She was very quiet and didn’t want to bother anyone. I believe she ignored symptoms because she didn’t want to make a fuss.

Today is the 17 year anniversary of my mother’s passing. It’s also been about 13 years since I went no contact with my father. These events are very much intertwined. Going no contact was an incredibly difficult decision but it is one I don’t regret at all.

The point of journalism is to tell people the truth! If the population and political leaders are panicking about something that isn't happening, your job as a reporter is to loudly debunk it — not plead with the other party to join the panic.

"but crime is a real issue, people are worried about crime and you have to take that seriously"

No you don't! If people are getting more scared about crime while crime is happening less frequently, it's a made up issue and you should make a point of yelling that all the time

This is what I still don't get about the establishment's Mamdani meltdown: Most of his policies aren't that radical.
nymag.com/intelligence...
Freezing the rent on the city’s stabilized units? Mayor Bill de Blasio did it three times, in 2015, 2016, and 2020. Raise the minimum wage? This year, following a decade of increases approved in Albany, the city’s minimum wage hit $16.50. Mamdani’s call for free public buses sounds an awful lot like the MTA’s Fair Fares program, which currently lets low-income New Yorkers ride for half-price. And an estimated 3 million hungry New Yorkers get 1.6 million government-supplied meals every day through federal SNAP benefits, so opening five government-owned grocery stores (one in each borough) is more like a tiny demonstration project than a Soviet-style takeover.

If Mamdani’s threat to tax wealthy New Yorkers sounds familiar, it’s because bills to do exactly that have repeatedly been introduced in Albany for at least a decade; all died in committee. It’s also worth noting that in 2021, then-candidate for mayor Adams called for a special tax on ultrawealthy New Yorkers. “If you make more than $5 million a year, we are asking you to pay a little more to stabilize our city,” he said at the time, a suggestion he promptly dropped after taking office.

Words are important. Those of us on the left will say,” they’re taking our healthcare.” While those on the right say,”they’re taking your healthcare.” That one letter difference is “rugged individualism” vs communities that believe in mutual aid.
