two of these films were presented by Elvira but I can't help but think it would be cooler if all four of them were
a "Recent Activity" Letterboxd panel featuring the films Night of the Rat, Climax, The House That Screamed, and Island of the Doomed. the notion of Gaspar Noe's Climax as hosted by Elvira is maybe the funniest idea ever

this is very cool. on my radar more for Max Allan Collins than for Kia Asamiya (or for Batman tbh) but I'm very impressed. would make a great movie

got some more info on this. he helped her get out of China, not Japan, and she was going back to Japan, not to the US. she was scared of some harsh "delousing" process and he talked them into letting him do it because she was freaking out otherwise. her name has been lost to history

I'm extrapolating from limited information here but I just learned that my grandfather might have had some sort of Before Sunrise situation with a Japanese woman he helped get out of Japan immediately after WWII

I'm ready to concede the entire movie as cool, I don't think I ever even saw the whole thing from beginning to end. but I associate him as a director with a certain kind of boring prestige

I suppose there are worse metrics than that but for me anyway there's a line. the tougher question would be can something be cool but not good, that one stumps me
