2003: US attacks a place for no good reason → lefty simpletons spread "blood for oil" theory → "blood for oil" talk enters collective memory → 2025: reactionary simpletons think attacking a place to "get the oil" is good strategy → US attacks a place for no good reason

This is key. Europe's courting of Trump has bought only short-term benefits at the cost of any belief that EUR will stand up for Ukraine's and its own interests when the chips are down. Now here we are.
you seriously when you need them to. The White House official who remarked "we don't care what the Europeans think" reflects the Washington mood. Europe will get in line when we tell them to. So will the EU unfreeze frozen Russian assets to go to US firms? Get rid of sanctions, etc? 5/

Future historians might want to reconstruct when NATO ceased to exist IN ITS TRANSATLANTIC FORM.
Here’s a hint. Look at this passage of the Ukraine „peace plan“. The US will act as a „mediator“ between NATO and Russia.
As if they were no longer the lead nation.

Agree. Coalition of the Willing has to stop deluding itself that after a ceasefire on reasonable terms it will send symbolic forces to Ukraine w US backing. UK, France, Germany, Poland &c must invest whatever it takes to defeat RU in UA, or they will have to fight it, without US help, further West.
It’s not a “US plan”, it’s Moscow’s plan, dictated to guilty men in the White House. Setting aside the injustices being pushed on Ukraine, this would be a disaster for European security & guarantee a war with 🇷🇺 in a few years, in which, presumably, 🇺🇸 and 🇷🇺 are on the same side.

I've just wrapped up the last of these.
In the end I did the following:
- Thompson, The Making of the English working class
- Scott, Gender and the politics of history
-Fogel/Engerman, Time on the Cross

Overall I'm happy with the texts (despite being sad about lots of others I couldn't include)
I've been given an impossible task: three one-hour lectures as part of a series on "great texts" for masters students in anglophone studies. I get to cover the History part (there's also literature and linguistics).

I get to choose three history books, preferably on the anglophone world.
