🏺 Again and again - our discipline has been crucial to genocide. Pretending otherwise is complicity.
Israel, which has obliterated most of Palestine’s archeological and heritage sites, including ancient churches, mosques, and temples, has suddenly discovered an urge to protect one from Palestinian ‘neglect’. It just so happens to be in the West Bank.

"A system built on specialisation, efficiency", that right there is the death knell for the current university system in the UK, if (big if) government pushes it through. They actively don't want HE to grow, they will intervene, apparently, to help it shrink.

This sentence was taken out of a lecture they commissioned, reviewed through the full editorial process, and recorded four weeks ago in front of 500 people in the BBC Radio Theatre.

I was told the decision came from the highest levels within the BBC. /2

I guess the brave BBC will be sandblasting Orwell's "If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear" off the front of Broadcasting House?
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Yeah the pre-emptive nihilism people display is *very obviously* a self-fulfilling prophesy and extremely in fact part of shifting our cultural norms in exactly the direction Farage et al would prefer. Care, care simply because it matters, and it matters to you. Say as much publicly.
All the supposedly progressive people saying 'Nigel Farage's racism doesn't matter. His fans love it'.

It matters whether the leader of the party leading all the opinion polls is an outright racist. It matters if he called black people 'wogs' and said 'gas them' to Jews. Not everything is a game

Really looks like the United States is about to launch a regime change war against Venezuela with:

-No casus belli
-No authorization from Congress
-No allies or international support
-No plan for a post-Maduro Venezuela
-No preparation for any sort of stabilization or containment of the fallout

A bit of a misnomer since the Israeli army has had an established occupation presence in the southern Syrian corridor since December 2024. They have put up checkpoints, rendered roads unusable, kidnapped Syrian civilians, killed Syrian civilians, and bombed countless civilian sites.
BREAKING: The Israeli army has launched an incursion into the countryside of Quneitra in southern Syria with five vehicles entering Syrian territory.

Totally without ideas.

Reeves is completely trapped in the “government is a household / balance the books “ mentality; further soured by a petit-bourgeois disdain for social security, foreigners, and education.

I've given up on pointing this out, but it is 100% true. The list of "new discoveries" about platforms that I literally filed public affidavits about in 2010 or testified on live TV about in 2012 is... really long.

We could skip a bunch of bullshit by looking at what is already public.

Given the ultra-wealthy, tech-bro, loathing of the USA, (of the rest of humanity) and overwhelming desire to live on private islands, in bunkers, or on other planets while the world burns or drowns, it is of no consequence whether the influence is foreign or not.
It’s all a sham and a foreign influence operation as we have been saying on @pivotpod.bsky.social for a while now.

Once again, for those at the back:

The younger you are (the further from retirement age), the greater the loss from any reduction of the state pension.
Up to 7m extra working-age people could be denied minimum standard of living in retirement if UK state pension triple lock is ditched.

Neoliberals squeeze wages and call for real cuts to pension.

Thousands will die prematurely.

State pension must not be less than the minimum wage

Representative of the Arab states, Algeria voted in favour. But with no alternatives to discuss, and the US veto ready for anything else anyway, this was the only option : weasel words and bad-faith offers or nothing.

The question is whether voting for this “plan” merely salves consciences.
The US-led “Board of Peace” effectively nullifies Palestinian self-determination, reducing it to mere “aspiration.” The UNSC’s adoption of this resolution is yet another example of the sidelining of Palestinian voices and concerns.
