Save our Bay! As a year-round Casco bay swimmer, I cringe when thinking of the permanent damage being done. Most of us humans may enjoy a relatively brief swim but our fish and other marine life have to suffer these pollutants 24/7!

Ok, called the USCG this morning. First guy told me they don’t enforce the horn regulation because cruise ships are exempt! That did not go over well. 😡
Asked to speak with his supervisor.
Petty Officer T tried to tell me the same thing. Not acceptable. He is now going to speak with his boss.

These cruise ships pollute our air. We can see and smell the billowing exhaust.

But did you know that they are also polluting our water?

Their scrubber wash causes a witches’ brew of chemical discharge directly into Casco Bay.

I read that using a horn for “entertainment” was illegal and the coast guard could issue a citation. But it was AI so who knows if it is accurate.
Apparently port staff already said something but the ship has disregarded it. I have no problem calling the coast guard in the morning and asking them.

I need to check USCG regulations. How is it that a horn of that decibel is allowed to be used for entertainment? Aren’t there maritime rules about things like this?

Can you imagine trying to get to your buoy to check your lobster trap and have to navigate around a 200,000 ton cruisezilla?

The PAHs from scrubber wash are carcinogenic and bioaccumulate. You’d think that would be reason enough! 🦞
