Why I'm mocking the new Social Media restriction laws a mini-thread.

I'm a parent of a couple of young boys, so I understand quite well a lot of the issues facing parenting as well as the cohorts of children.

I'm an old and grumpy software developer. I know how this all works.

Remember when Turnbull was going to "ban encryption" in Australia. Good times, good times.

Registering a new social media app "moonshine" to highlight exactly what happens when prohibition is enacted. Idiots.

Prohibition has never previously worked as a policy for getting people to not consume something they want, but fortunately the social media ban will buck this trend by virtue of its careful evidence-based design and Albo's friendly reassuring smile every time he fails to answer the question.

I was skeptical about the kids social media ban but in less that 24 hours my kid has learned to speak French and hacked the SportsBet site, earning herself $50m in pocket money

kinda disappointed X is giving in and going to age verify users - as shit as Musk and X is, I was hoping they'd defy it and let esafety come after them and fight it in court :(

Depriving my children of their early-career shitposting is a crime against humanity. How are they going to compete against the Koreans, or French when it comes to online sledging if they're not bathed in fire from an early age.

This is un-Australian and is part of the woke Albanese agenda.

We would be better off if we banned social media for people over the age of 60.

And if we banned the Murdoch press.
The fuck is this

Even worse the media class doing this know it’s complete bullshit. They’re going to shows, the golf, dinner at Florentino’s. A certain Herald Sun editor and his Liberal party wife are regulars in the Brunswick East dining and bar scene. Just bullshit from start to finish.

the thing i hate most about this social media ban is that it's making me argue on the side of gross companies like meta and google - do you understand how shit your law is for me to have to take their side on this???
