Using an AI-generated video of himself, Donald Trump sought “to mock and smear millions of Americans, literally depicting them covered in excrement, precisely so that none of his own supporters would want to join them,” @anneapplebaum.bsky.social argues: https://theatln.tc/wY7pEvxZ

Wanna get my support for the addition to the White House? Call it the “ball-less room” and dedicate it to the house GOP and I’m in

“This is not about drugs, it’s not about Venezuela, it’s not about anything else but this new assertion by the president that the U.S. military will kill anyone he points at, for any reason he deems sufficient.”

Very true and very scary comment by Tom Nichols.

I watched protests in Taiwan and Malaysia and wondered if I’d have the guts to demand reform if I knew I’d be met by water cannon, gas, & batons. Taiwan’s vibrant democracy is a testament to those protests. Malaysians achieved some goals but they still don’t have the democracy they want.

It's this photo if you missed it, savaging the East Wing to make a vanity ballroom.

Should add: I didn’t say you would LIKE everybody in any big tent opposition. It is miserable! If resistance only gives you a virtue high, then it’s actually just about you — not the people, and you’re doing it wrong.

Hasan: The great irony is of course that Donald Trump is the son of an immigrant. The grandson of an immigrant and married to an immigrant. In fact two of his three wives were immigrants, proving yet again that immigrants will do the jobs that even Americans are not willing to do.

Administrators at Indiana University baselessly fired the student media director and ordered the student paper to cease its print edition, so it'd sure be a shame if this excellent digital front page were to be widely shared today

Open AI is currently building a data center in Texas that will require roughly the equivalent of the power the Hoover Dam produces to operate.

Last week the Whitehouse killed a renewable energy project that was going to produce as much powers as three Hoover Dams.

None of this makes any sense.

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap

My dear grandmother was a geologist, and it would have given her great joy to hear her grandson digging into rare earth minerals, finding out what they do, and why they matter.

But for everyone else, it's a drag — the trade war equivalent of learning about the latest covid variant.
