Supporting local news like The 51st is one of the most powerful ways we can create accountability in this world. I support The 51st already and hope you will too.
🧵 1/ It’s hard to find hope amidst so much collapse.

But in the wreckage of today’s crises, people are also powering solutions — and The 51st, backed by the community of D.C., is one of them.

Will you help us build a local newsroom that a billionaire can’t break?

Following ICE to find and report news is, of course, journalism, but here's something the administration may not know: activism is also legal in this country!

Also, show us the part where law enforcement is in any way obstructed or impeded.

The problem is helicopter fuel is just soooo expensive these days.
The big tech founder whose 417-foot, $500 million superyacht needs a 256-foot, $75 million superyacht to "shadow" it -- because the bigger yacht lacks a helipad -- had to cut his paper's newsroom almost in half, for reasons
NEWS: The cuts were so severe that at least one department head asked to leave The Post rather than be included in the planning.

Peter Finn, The Post's international editor, requested that he be laid off once he learned about the scope of the cuts to his section.

She's finally getting it! She's basically a Rand Paul now. Hate her policy positions but at least she's sort of in reality now.
Marjorie Taylor Greene after the latest batch of Epstein Files dropped yesterday:

"Well based on files released and then deleted, I’d say the odds went up on bombing Iran.

It is Friday after all."

If government is going to use an AI product, the regulations needs to mandate the inclusion of a bill of materials like CISA’s SBOM concept (www.cisa.gov/sbom)

If your model scraped 4chan or worse maybe it doesn’t need to be used in a government context

"Our new analysis shows that it is far more dangerous to be pregnant than to have an abortion, and this gap in mortality risk is even larger than previously recognized.” - lead study author Maria Steenland.
In fact, the mortality risk of pregnancy is 44 to 70 times higher than from abortion.
Risk of maternal death during pregnancy greatly underestimated, study finds
A new study comparing deaths of pregnant people and of those who have an abortion show that risk of death due to pregnancy is three times higher than previously estimated.

Republican Goons: (murders some people)

House Republicans: (goes on vacation)

Senate Republicans: I'm sorry my colleagues murdering people and going on vacation make it very tricky to modify the murder funding.
Schumer says if Thune splits the DHS bill off of the minibus funding package, Democrats will vote for it

Thune says it's risky to "modify" the bill
"You're injecting a lot of uncertainty into the equation here by not moving the package as drafted with the input of the Democrats"

Don't make Bovino the fall guy when Trump has been advocating for "unshackled" police since '89, urging violence against protesters & immigrants since '15 and turning violent rhetoric into policy as POTUS

My @washingtonmonthly.com look at Trump's long record

Don’t Make Bovino the Fall Guy for the Violence Trump Long Craved
The White House is scapegoating Greg Bovino for killings in Minnesota. But Trump has spent years urging police brutality and mob violence.

Just a reminder that both Ilhan Omar and Maxwell Frost have been attacked this week.

No outrage by right-wing media or even corporate media.

Now imagine if this were done to Republicans.

The entire system is rigged in favor of conservatives, folks. The double standards are just wild.

You what? The only way this can be true is if Suozzi has no conception of the role of Congress in the government.
Tom Suozzi, one of the 7 House Dems who voted for the DHS bill: "I failed to view the DHS funding vote as a referendum on the illegal and immoral conduct of ICE in Minneapolis... I have long been critical of ICE’s unlawful behavior and I must do a better job demonstrating that."

Wild dissenting opinion

Issue is the law was misread by BOTH sides of the suit, but the mistake was caught by a prof

Under Alito-Gorsuch logic, if both sides misinterpret the original intent of the law, the misinterpretation is then law

So much for originalism!
