Solidarity with the Jewish community, because I feel this every time I see a pride flag in my very Conservative town I live in. Minorities exist and we will continue to exist, and we need to stand together against the bigots who want us gone.
I wish all who celebrate a Happy Hanukkah. 🕎
Annual reminder that if you see a menorah in someone’s window, that’s an act of defiance against bigotry and hate. It’s also pride and bravery.

It’s says “a Jew lives here” and that’s both painting a target but also reminding everyone that we still exist and we always will.

Honestly, it is always an honor to talk with @dahlialithwick.bsky.social on her show Amicus. She is so perceptive, brilliant, and curious all at once.

Here we are trying to g to make sense of another year, and ringing alarms early for the upcoming year.

Love reading this 1946 review of the original. "Hey maybe we should all learn from Nazi Germany's educational purges and be ready to defend higher education against the many adversaries that fascists might array against it".

Preposterous! Alarmist! Could never happen!

This is one of the weirdest things when people are quoting Shakespeare. Practically every line Shakespeare ever wrote is being said by a character who has his own motivations, context, meaning. the lines by themselves are like saying lama sabachthani without, you know, the Cross
*a character in Shakespeare said this in a dramatic context that frames its meaning

Everybody talks about wanting to change things and help and fix, but ultimately all you can do is fix yourself. And that's a lot. Because if you can fix yourself, it has a ripple effect.

I needed something to smile about today
With this piece of bread on the ground in Ottawa, Canada and the one below in Perth, Australia, @drstip.bsky.social and I have successfully created an Earth sandwich.

The hot dog vs sandwich debate is concluded.

If the Earth is sandwiched, everything is a sandwich.

HAPPY EARTH SANDWICH DAY!

I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

Wow thanks for the great tour through the history of birthright citizenship! That was really interesting.
Birthright citizenship under the common law, a thread:

I have done this many times on social media, in print, and in media interviews, but not to be accused of taking others’ not seriously enough, by plainly stating the law and history of birthright citizenship, I’m taking the time here:

#mathgame idea (inspired by terrytao.wordpress.com/2025/12/08/t...)

Shuffle. Deal each player a face down stack of 10 cards. You flip over a card, which you can keep or discard. Each subsequent card you keep has to be >= last card you took. Winner is player with the largest sum. A=1, K=13.

Counting up the work I've done this year, and feeling pretty good about it! In 2025, I've drawn:

146 maps
17 figures
4 pieces of commissioned artwork
Fantasy subway maps
c. 50k words worth of patreon writing
Lots of non-commissioned artwork

That's a lot to draw by hand! Here are some favorites:

vaccines let autistic children become autistic adults
At the recent ACIP meeting, members spread lies about vaccines and autistic people. Vaccines are important. They protect us from diseases, and they let autistic kids grow to become autistic adults. We do not need to be prevented; we need support and respect. autisticadvocacy.org/2025/12/asan...
