After thinking about this constantly with embarrassment for 36+ hours, I just need everyone to know that I DID realize and always know that 256 is half of 128, which is half of 64 which is 1/8th of 8. Please. If I had just looked at 256 more carefully during my work call (it was a busy day. Please!!

"The possibility of overreach is a price worth paying exactly because shame serves as a robustly liberal alternative to political violence. It is, quite literally, the least one can do to ensure rules of social conduct that upheld minimal levels of dignity for all involved."

"Common decency stigmatizes people that do not participate in it—removes them from voluntary association. We indeed have to live with one another, but terms and conditions apply."

One takeaway for Canadians watching what’s happening in the United States right now is that we need to put more pressure on governments / parties to strengthen democratic institutions and the fourth estate

You can also defend democracy by supporting the work of journalists and civil society groups

This is classic CDN media misrepresentation.
What went down at Christie Pits wasn't two sides of the same issue.
This was a hate rally demanding mass deportations against people who live in Toronto. It was a fascist hate gathering.
They were countered by people standing up for their neighbours.

Honest question about this article (and I am pro-journalist and I love journalists): How do you report "they cut 12% of staff over 2 years" and "this agency is completely dysfunctional" without also asking "hey do you guys think the dysfunction is due to these staff cuts"?

I love you people! Philosophers are like garbagemen; you do some of the most important work in society that I myself do not want to do.

This Labor Day (and all other days): Thank the workers who serve you. Appreciate the workers who care for you. Respect the workers who pick up your trash. Salute the workers who get you your mail. Honor the workers who teach your children.

Pay all workers a living wage.
