More ActiveTO and OpenStreetsTO, pls
Happy Friday, Toronto! I just launched a petition calling on Mayor Olivia Chow & Toronto City Council to bring back open streets programs such as #ActiveTO and #OpenStreetsTO by 2026. You can read the call to action on my blog. #BikeTO #WalkTO #TOpoli www.twowheeledpolitics.ca/2025/05/acti... (1/3)

I drove downtown every day for work this week, and all I could think was, "Why the fuck would anyone want to drive here." It's hell. More bike lanes now.

Sadly, a couple of paragraphs later, I think it becomes clarified what the intention is here, and it isn't solving homelessness. These prisons will involve P3 contracts.

Doug Ford has committed to criminalizing homeless people "[using] whatever legal tools" in today's Speech from the Throne.

All while tariffs threaten to end livelihoods. All while his government has overseen exponential growth in homelessness province-wide.

All this elbow talk around tariffs has got me thinking about when I told my partner, who was rolling dough at the time, to put his elbows into it (no, I did not realize that what I was saying was, in fact, a malaphor).

Saw a new-to-me duck species today!! A White-Winged Scoter. Celebrating with a Ducks IPA, though the depicted duck, which I believe to be a Northern Shoveler, still eludes me.
Times may be shit, but I can forget about that for a while when I see a cool DUCK.
Oh yea and buy local?

This is important: A prospective Ford government has signalled its intention to expand prisons and put homeless people in jail rather than build the housing that people need and that is their fundamental right.

I don't want a province that makes people homeless then throws them in prison.
The Ontario PC platform has been released: static.ontariopc.ca/uploads/2025...

They have committed to re-tabling the Safer Municipalities Act, which makes being homeless in public a crime in Ontario.

Every other party understands that the solution to homelessness is housing — not criminalization.

This was a damn good doc describing the experience of anti-fascists, particularly the Abraham Lincoln Brigade from the U.S., in the Spanish Civil War. Includes interviews with badass ALB survivors. Would recommend!

This video is for Doug Ford, and all those in my replies saying bike lanes "stop emergency vehicles from getting to their destination". They *allow* emergency vehicles to get to their destination, as seen here on Adelaide. They were designed with emergency services in mind.
