Otacon: What was she fighting for? What am _I_ fighting for? What are _you_ fighting for!?

Snake: If we make it through this, I'll tell you

Snake, later: So I'm pretty sure I was genetically engineered to be addicted to getting combat high

Finally hit the end credits of Xenoblade Chronicles 2; it's been a playthrough roughly 8 years in the making

A flawed game for sure, but despite it all, it was a very special experience for me with a cast of characters that I came to really love. I'm very glad I finally got myself to finish it

Was listening to a writer describe worldbuilding as something that is tempting to do because it can easily just be busywork that makes you *feel* like you're being productive even if you're not, and now I'm thinking about that frame of mind in relation to gamedev

FINALLY got all of the main game RNG Rare Blades in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I mean, there are still a few RNG ones that will get added to the gacha pool after beating the game that I will have to contend with later, but that's future me's problem. What a slog; the RNG really is a blemish on the game

from time to time i still encounter this kinda reductive old deviantart attitude that anime/manga styles are flat/unrealistic and that Ghibli mostly is the only grounded, naturalistic anime style. all styles have, obey and break different rules. none of these are unstructured or lawless

I haven't yet played Half-Life: Alyx, but I know about The Retcon™, and it honestly bums me out. As a teen, I was pretty invested in where the HL2 story was going, and it feels kinda cheap to be like "You know that pretty consequential thing that happened? No it didn't"

I typically dislike the adage of "this game gets better N hours in", but for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, it's unfortunately true. But that's because they give you a bit too much freedom too early; you have all these systems that don't really make sense until you get things from the back half of the game

Apropos of nothing in particular, just wanted to say that, personally, I think voice actors and mocap actors are actors just like any other and their very human performances are very important to video game development 🙂

A reminder that this anti-trans panic is 100% bullshit and exactly none of our country’s problems are related to someone expressing their gender identity and everyone who isn’t a hate-filled weirdo knows it.

Jebus, the absolute worst part of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is its overreliance on RNG. Want all the Blades (i.e., characters)? You gotta play gacha! Except it's a single player game with no monetization. So it's just wasting your time for fun 🙃

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has been troublesome to get through (I've been trying on and off for like 8 years, jeez), but I really have come to enjoy the main cast and the dynamic they have with each other. I love these goobers

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

When I was a teen, I was super into webcomics and, as a result, a deep user of RSS to get my comic feeds. But then Google Reader died, RSS kinda fell out of fashion, and microblogging grew. However, it seems like RSS is maybe making a small comeback? Maybe it's time to try it out again
