Almost every light in my apartment can change colours and it’s honestly the best thing. I am never more relaxed than when I am surrounded by red light. Especially at night.

Me, seething : I hope you try
One of the more frustrating aspects of being a writer is when people ask, "But how much do you have left?"

I don't know, man. 600 good words? 2000 mediocre ones? The good words take longer, but many medi ones don't make the cut so you have to redo?

This morning on a walk for coffee I once again had the experience of an older man coming up to me & speaking to me in Russian. When I responded with "I'm sorry, I don't understand" he seemed surprised & confused.
I don't think I look particularly Russian, but I guess some Russian people think I do?

If you look carefully you can see this is a poem to a sword
I try to speak gentle and sincere words, build them into our days, repeating and refining hope until they loose all meaning except their functional truth. Skin and bone and blood words - love words. Love will keep us safe, we will be safe together

There is a quote this that's something like "We celebrate life because life is beautiful" sex, intimacy, love - these are more valuable when systems of power tell you that they are threats. The beauty of Our lives is a weapon.

The command of language, of cadence, and at the end, of the camera. What an incredible voice and presence. And such heart. This is brilliant and makes me ( in this moment ) miss my days working in theatre.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Loot that drops after defeating me:

a pair of rimless glasses, a bar of delicious dark chocolate, a handful of polyhedral dice, a very large framing hammer, and a battered well-used original Aeropress.
Loot that drops after defeating me:

a dog-eared book, a fountain pen nib, a crumpled tissue, 3 of my cat's whiskers, and a little black rock that - if you keep it - will mark you as a gravity sink for statistically improbable & highly unlikely events
Loot that drops after defeating me:
An assortment of knives, a pair of fingerless gloves, a very cool rock, a tube of lipgloss, a half-empty pack of cigarettes, and at least two lighters

The auteur lens of the creator economy too-often makes invisible the infrastructure necessary to do most work well.

That is exponentially more true for work like journalism & scholarship that needs institutional memory, costly databases, EDITORS, fact-checking, & when really vital/risky, LAWYERS.

Worth noting just how much the fucking Myth Of Bootstraps probably has a major role in the belief that the paid newsletter path is a viable one.
