Heading over to have a pre snow dinner with friends in a bit.

Getting a Shin Godzilla rewatch started before we go. Finish when we get back.

SG’s initial appearance and tear through the city is imaginative with a good helping of disturbing as its body adapts and evolves. Crazy stuff.

A tale of two cinemas

In the time it takes for a movie to start at the local AMC, I can drive to a a great independent theater that knows you might enjoy trailers, but you came to see the damn movie. Even says so on their site.

And they have actual projectionists so the picture is always pristine.

You walk into this bar and show your ICE mugshot, you don't pay a dime.
Scrolling through the photos of Pam Bondi's "Minnesota rioters," it's just hero after hero. Every photo includes a cowardly DHS agent with their back to the camera.

Bondi thinks she's going to win the propaganda war with this shit, but it's never been more clear that they're losing.

The Trump administration murdered this man in broad daylight.
A video of Alex Pretti reading out the final salute of an unnamed veteran he cared for until the end of his life in the ICU, posted to Facebook by his son.

Ready as we’re gone be. Two generators. Stack of wood for the fireplace. Gas logs. Big flat top and iron grill outside. Small flat top and camp stove for inside. Now we wait.

Time to relax with a comfort movie. Raiders of the Lost Ark first up for tonight.

He goes on to describe one of his officers being stopped when she was off-duty solely because she's non-white, harassed by ICE goons who slapped her phone out of her hand as she tried to record, only to be let go when she finally revealed she was a cop.
Brooklyn Park police chief Mark Bruley: "We're hearing people being stopped with no cause & being demanded to show paperwork to determine if they're here legally. We started hearing from our police officers the same complaints. Every one of these individuals is a person of color... it has to stop"

Watched Point Blank last night. Boorman and Marvin made magic.
One of the all-time great Hollywood anecdotes.

I’ve never really been able to connect with anime on the whole. What few movies I’ve seen, though, I’ve enjoyed.

Last night the son chose Akira for our watch. First watch for us both. No surprise that it was rock solid.

A sumptuous feast for the eyes.

Rebuilding my Bronze Age Superman collection. Cardy on the outside. Maggin, Bates, and Swan on the inside.

Son picked House for our watch tonight. First time for him. Rewatch for me.

House does what it wants. In the best way.

Son picked Ikiru for our first movie of the year. Kurosawa doesn’t make it easy taking you where he’s going. Then brings it together, in his own way and time.

My #LastFourWatched of 2025 was strong. Two “new to me” movies book ended by suggestions from the son he hadn’t seen.

Of particular note is William Wyler’s The Collector. Wyler showed his skills were still sharp forty years after he began his directing career.

A dropped out early in season two. Pretty much sums it up.

If you’ve enjoyed it, happy for you and hope they stick the landing.
Not to yuck anyone’s yum, but a certain popular Netflix show never clicked with me, and considering the subject, you’d think it would. But lookit, I grew up in the 1980s. When you’ve (metaphorically) been to Joel Silver’s house, this diet cocaine just doesn’t get you there.

Second watch for Sinners last night.

The second go round made for more closely observing the performances and thematics.

Have mercy but what a movie.

28 Years Later

Danny Boyle does not make boring movies.

Surprised at how moving it is. Capped with the other best bug nuts ending of the year.

Good movie and one to help shake off the holiday rewatches and give something new to you a shot if you’ve never seen it.
BROOKLYN 45 takes place 80 years ago, on Dec. 27, 1945, during this often-sad, cold space of time between Christmas and New Years. Watch it on @shudder.com, rent it on Prime Video or Apple TV, or catch the black and white edition on Blu-Ray (the first 90 seconds of which I'm including here)!

Finished Quest of Qui and settled in for my semi regular holiday rewatch of Doc Savage: Man of Bronze.

Yeah it’s flawed but I can muster up nostalgia despite walking out of the theater somewhat disappointed as a kid.

People compare it to the 60s Batman but it’s more of a 60s Disney adventure.

So the probable middle to lower income wage earner who won can pay a 60% tax but not actual billionaires.

Huh. Fancy that.
The actual cash payout for the 1.8 billion Powerball was 834 million. A *billion* dollars to taxes. Amazing.
