Okay, the crowd going nuts like someone just scored a touchdown at the Super Bowl all *through* the KDH performance is a hell of a thing to see hear/see:

Related: I feel like a lot of the piracy vs buying discourse (🤢 that this is even a thing) gets framed as stealing money from individual authors vs. stealing from faceless corporate publishers when for most authors it’s about whether or not they’ll get to publish another book.

Snow has fallen followed by a blanket of ice. Beautiful but lethal. The studio is snug. The dog on an eiderdown. Through the window I see the Sunshine catching ice crystals and droplets falling from the field gate turn to diamonds before they hit the ground

Outside of Chicago, on the grounds of a former armory, decades ago an alliance of various orgs began restoring the prairie, and at Midewin Tallgrass Prairie they imported bison to roam the prairie once more. I love to visit my very large bi sons 💚🦬

Omar El Akkad's One Day, Everyone will have Always Been Against This has won the National Book Award. This is a deserving, necessary win. His words need to be on all of our minds and in all of our hearts.

"When it mattered, who sided with justice and who sided with power?"

Stand on the Appalachia Trail at night and you will know the answer to can a mountain haunt itself?
They're older than trees. And dinosaurs. And were maybe once as tall as the Himalayas.

Anything that old has to be riddled with spooky shit, obvs, but y'all. They are a SPECIAL KIND OF HAUNTED.
the Appalachian mountains are so ancient they predate the evolution of bones.

I've had a few 'what do you do' convs recently, and everyone on hearing I'm an author comes out with "so how do you come up with ideas?", just like every book or movie about a writer has them staring numbly into space because they don't have an idea for the next book. And look, that is Not It.

the way I am putting every single author I know in a headlock over the next few months.
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

I have an assignment where I ask my students to identify a potential real trad publisher for their work. No matter how clear I am on which direction the money should flow, some invariably identify pay-to-players. Sounds like I'm also going to have to add a scam awareness component to that class...
Lost in the plot: how would-be authors were fooled by AI staff and virtual offices in suspected global publishing scam
Book publishing websites in Australia, the UK and New Zealand appear to be using fake testimonials and AI staff pages to lure aspiring writers into handing over their money

Plus I dont think it'll actually be too big a problem. For AAA games, maybe, but there will always be indies and AAs that will proudly make games without it.

Like, the artisan cheese market didn't disappear when cheez whiz was invented
"If you hate GenAI you're going to have to stop playing new games when they all start using it"

My brother in Christ, my backlog is literally thousands of games long. I have lifetimes worth of earlier titles to play, & I will gladly do that instead of boiling the oceans for a new CoD or whatever

Okay.

Real Estate Investing should not be a thing. the building I live in right now should have been a housing co-operative built with municipal, provincial, and federal funding and any "profit" made should have gone directly into a maintenance fund.

If you own more than house? TAXES. LOTS OF EM.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Ohhh so it’s like the market-manipulation dagger next to titles on the NY Times bestseller list, but it’s not the NY Times bestseller list, it’s the Wilmington, Delaware B.Dalton bestseller list
I've been seeing this headline floating around. To be clear:

1) This is "No. 1" on a miniscule chart, The "Country Digital Song Sales" chart, as in people actually paying money to download country songs which is a tiny amount of people

2) The actual consumers are almost certainly fake
