President Biden took a bold step towards ending the Death Penalty at the Federal level today. I offer Hitchens’ argument against the Death Penalty excerpted here and with a link to the entire 10 minute speech.

It is flatly un-American and counter to the spirit of The Enlightenment.

There are always useful idiots or those that find their own justifications for aligning themselves with power. Big City Superintendent is a $$$ job so I think “greed” covers it here at least partially.

Like many that were hyper local to the events, it reinforced an urgent drive to assimilate and distance themselves from their own communities.

My mom took us to a Sons of Italy thing in the 70’s and my grandfather forbade it ever again. Raised his voice and everything.

My people (who were Italians) are all from that area of Massachusetts. (Brockton, Stoughton,) and i grew up in E. Bridgewater. Sacco was from the same area of Italy as my Greats..

this was all during the time my grandfather was a young child and teenager by the time they were executed.

I keep saying this, if we remove all legal avenues for the public to be heard, and ultimately for concerns to be addressed, what is left?

If you can’t speak up, you can’t boycott, you can’t be seen to have a public opinion as a private citizen, what is left?

Paleoanthropology can be confusing with names. Why would scientists use “Denisovan” instead of coming up with a species name? Or “modern human” instead of Homo sapiens? And why didn’t some names ever catch on, like the Heidelbergers or the chumanzees?

Basically Outplacement Firms do the tissues and resume coaching during layoffs and as such are a source of jobs data.

Think of the climate like a large bell. You hit it with a log on ropes and you get a rich, deep tone that resonates for a time.

Shoot a bullet at it and you get a very high note. That means more and faster vibrations. 4C in 200 years is a sniper round to the climate.

It’s not a strict 1-1 comparison, there’s probably not enough sequestered carbon left in the ground to replicate the End Permian, but there doesnt need to be.

4C is difficult to carry civilization through. 5C? 6??

The difference between 6 and 8C is horrific but we’ll never see it. We’ll be gone.
