Like Sam I am loving the way the newspapers are now advising us about devaluing our houses. Will we have glossy magazine articles on recluttering? Best excuse yet not to throw away all my papers.
As it happens I already do most of the tips on devaluing your house but just because I'm lazy and unaware of my surroundings. Not for tax avoidance purposes.

Would be interesting to separate out NICs and income tax

That doesn't sound like fun. Hope they sort it soon.

Oh know- hope you are not too cold and have charged everything up!

No I don’t think I shall take you as a usual case!

Interesting but I am not convinced about sensitivity to precise rates. You won’t pay NICs as a pensioner but i doubt most people have a clue what they pay- other than overall, once a year. so the plan to increase income tax and reduce NICs should have worked well for majority.

How many people know precisely what rate of income tax and NICs combined they are paying now? Especially employees. With digitalisation, how many look at their ‘payslips’? #Just asking.

Struggling through crowds at Paddington station and feeling fed up when a very small boy says to his grandmother- ‘this is fun’ and suddenly I am smiling. The amazing power of positivity ( and small children). Thank you, little boy!

Just back from trip to Pompei where I learned about the Roman tax on urine. Seems like one of the very few ideas that has not been leaked over the past few weeks …

I would if I understood it!

Shall I sell them both to the highest bidder?

Totally agree carrying on is not for everyone and I was ready to relinquish my full time post to a younger person, but organisations that make it difficult to carry on in some capacity miss out and being patronised is especially annoying! Provision obviously needed for those who can’t continue.

Intend!

Very much agree with this and intent to keep going as long as I can!

Most tax specialists agree we need reform not fiddling, but easy to get dragged into detail and lose overview. Good that Martin Wolf in FT also writing about big tax reform. But it cannot be rushed or it will go wrong. Economists in particular-don’t forget the need to be able to implement
Spot on on how politicians think about tax. Unfortunately I agree likely we shall have minor fiddling again. But better options exist - eg Resolution Foundation suggestion. Since even small tweaks upset someone, why not be bolder and go for principled reform? Politics, that’s why.

Labour's big choice at the budget is whether they just want to try and survive it or whether they're willing to take some bigger risks that would have future payoffs.

Perhaps the plan is for it to be invalid?

Big problem with #The Archers. No scriptwriters- wills are not to be found on laptops1 They must be written, signed and witnessed.

Whatever the market will bear I expect - but they do that anyway.

Big Four accountants lobby against partnership tax changes in Budget . Of course they are! ‘A lot of firms will incorporate as a result of this…’ They would have done that in 2002 if they hadn’t had the LLP created for them- a vehicle that has done little but provide opportunities for tax saving.

Will you give me a reference Sam?

I did predict he would turn the experience into a substack. A lot of lessons to learn ( for Sam and the NHS!)

The South Bank area used to be a lovely place to walk and sit but now there is noise everywhere. Why are buskers allowed to be so loud?

Should do but there has still only been one reference to inheritance tax since the changes were announced, which is remarkable give n the general concerns among farmers.

Indeed!

You don’t. Most places have minor injuries units.
