Formal introduction (if'n you don't know by now)...
I'm Jules. I sing. I strum the guitar. I sometimes write things.
I also dig stand-up, space, art, animals, books, snooker and cycling.
I lost Gill, the yin to my yang, in 2019. This feed is dedicated to her.
Be kind, be real, or get out of my face.

2000 Great Songs #1226: Take Our Test. Eclectic post-punk pioneers Minutemen take a stab at a pop song... and still sound exactly like the Minutemen, not exactly radio-friendly, yet with a sing-along chorus thrown into the mix.

🎶 we got a snow drift,
Danny’s gift
and plasma from the bloody lifts
axed doors,
maze tours
and creepy twins you can’t ignore,
red rum, scared mum, barman chum and you must say
when he’s typing all the day
it’s all work and never play
play, play, play, play, play, play, play, play. 🎶

MY PETS (Palindrome)

Dog.
A sad dog
or fat cat.
Nine dragons
(no garden intact).
A frog,
odd as a god.

This guy's good. If you want to skip straight to the part where he talks about ICE, then it begins at 23 minutes in.

This is a damn near perfect album. I love everything about it except Sneeky Pete's weird jumper on the sleeve. The other guys and the girls look great, Pete looks like he's wearing a present from his Grandma.

The night is restless
But no dreams in sight
And sounds have no beginnings or ends
And that glow is not a light
The walls turn into waterfalls
With water made of thoughts that call
"It's not O.K. to tip the glass
Don't smile too long or shed a tear"

If you don't own a piece of music that Sly Dunbar played on, there's something missing in your life. RIP.

People who Sly Dunbar drummed for include:
Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Culture, Black Uhuru, Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Jimmy Cliff, Mighty Diamonds, Sugar Minott, Grace Jones, Serge Gainsbourg, Bob Dylan, Sinéad O'Connor, Ian Dury, Joan Armatrading, Yoko Ono...
The list goes on. What a CV. #RIPSly

Just heard that Sly Dunbar has died. Only two days ago I was looking up videos on YouTube about Sly's unique drumming style. Sly and Robbie were incredible talents, a virtuoso rhythm section for hire. Rest in peace, Sly, you absolute legend.

Albums I like that nobody else cares about, an occasional series
1. Skip Battin
Solo LP by late period Byrds bassist who wrote songs with the controversial Kim Fowley. Lots of old timey Americana. If you're one of the few people who actively enjoyed America's Great National Pastime, this is for you.

Blocking people on social media. That's a complicated one. Sometimes it's necessary, certainly for trolls and extremists etc, but when people you've known for years do it after some tiff, well then it's a sad state of affairs. Because the opportunity to work things out suddenly becomes impossible.
