I read somewhere on the internet today that when you think of a Stone Roses' tune, it's Mani's bass lines that are the first thing you vocalise. There's a lot of truth in that.

This song has grown on me over the years. It's an odd one. Pete sounds like he's channeling Gilbert & Sullivan/music theatre. But for all it's pretentious clumsiness, it sticks in your head. The "you're alone" parts are gorgeous. This is Pete's guide vocal for Roger.
