Dit is het probleem met heel veel politieke journalistiek in ons prachtland. Het is geen journalistiek maar voorlichting: men geeft door wat de machtigen zeiden. De 'duider' aan tafel vat dit dan allemaal nog eens samen. Maar de werkelijkheid achter de voorlichting: ho maar.
Dat diplomaten net deden alsof ‘t allemaal okay was hoort bij hun rol; de echte oordelen klinken in kleinere gesloten kringen.
Dat (Nederlandse) journalisten onvoldoende scherp zijn is een serieus probleem.

I do think Reagan and Newt started the closure of the party and the religion. After them, the drive for money and power became everything. The ultra right got access and never let go. Downhill from them on.

Hear hear! En er is inderdaad een zwak maar consistent verband tussen “linkse” politieke oriëntatie en intelligentie. Moeten we dan dommere mensen aanstellen aan universiteiten?
Als er al sprake is van een lichte voorkeur voor een lichte linkse oriëntatie t.o.v. andere beroepsgroepen, dan is dat volgens de auteur vooral een gevolg van het hogere kennis- c.q. opleidingsniveau bij universiteiten. M.a.w. dat komt omdat ze op die universiteiten gewoon wat slimmer zijn.
