A bit of a throwback to our 2030 vision for the European Rule of Law (including timing the annual reports more wisely and making them bigger, bolder and more comprehensive), read it here:

As the European Commission published its sixth annual Rule of Law Report today, check out this report by Sergio Carrera, Julia Pocze & Davide Colombi.

It argues for a radical reassessment of the EU approach & outlines 5 priorities to address its growing rule of law deficit.

Annika Brockschmidt, a failed German TV reporter who’s carved a lucrative niche peddling anti-Americanism to Germans (and famously wrote an entire book about American politics without setting foot in the country), is now predicting the demise of American democracy."

I had the pleasure of joining my @ceps.eu colleagues at @ilgaeurope.bsky.social’s #Equality Fundraiser last week. More than a very fun afterwork, it was the opportunity to connect and show my organisation’s and personal support to ILGA-Europe invaluable work!

Consider supporting them!

I was happy to rep @ceps.eu at ILGA Europe's fundraiser last week with @brusselsfog.bsky.social, @jullib.bsky.social and @davidecolombi.bsky.social

From Chaber's fantastic speech to drag kings, it was a life-affirming experience.

If you can, please consider donating! www.ilga-europe.org/donations/

@ilgaeurope.bsky.social is doing invaluable work to protect the rights, freedom and safety of *all* members of the LGBTIQA+ community, advocating for better, more inclusive policies, banning harmful practices, raising awareness and providing legal support. And they need donations more than ever.

Today, an estimated 180.000 people marched in Pride in #Budapest to reclaim the right to freedom of assembly despite a government ban. Congrats to the organisers #BudapestPride and thanks to all in the community and allies who showed up with Pride!

👀🇨🇳 Despite Viktor Orbán’s ban, Budapest Pride drew a record 100–200K in a city of 1.7M. Marchers defied threats, but new Chinese facial recognition tech was deployed—potentially enabling (up to) €500 fines for participants.

A police van with cameras was parked to record everyone passing by.

This is a good idea and more people should champion it. You don't stop being a citizen because you're incarcerated. In fact, we should be making every effort to ensure people in prison know that they will always be part of society.

Back in 2020, Zohran Mamdani responded to a post of mine on a bill that’d have entirely repealed felony disenfranchisement, including allow people to vote from prison, by endorsing the idea: “the right to vote is inalienable.”

I’m inspired by the words of @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, the winner of last night’s mayoral primary election in New York City.

Our system may be under attack by Big Money and demagogues, but let his victory serve as a reminder that power belongs to the people.

Federal courts have eliminated the right for tribal nations in North Dakota to fight discriminatory election laws, declaring only the Attorney General can sue under the VRA. Meanwhile, Trump's DOJ has abandoned enforcement of voter protections for marginalized groups: boltsmag.org/voting-right...
“A Law Without a Way to Enforce It” - Bolts
In North Dakota as elsewhere, Native voters face a triple threat: judges targeting the VRA, Trump officials hostile to discrimination laws, and a funding crunch depleting their work.

You can't ban love. You can't ban freedom. You can't silence a rainbow. 🌈

And despite the ban ordered by PM Viktor Orbán, the Budapest Pride will go ahead.

To queer communities in Hungary and across Europe: We see you, we support you, and we will not stay silent. ✊

🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧ See you at the Pride 💚

Shameful from the EPP - the same group who vehemently opposes the 'ethics body', even in its watered-down form and generally resists calls for stricter ethical/transparency rules for MEPs.

Let's then investigate their 'occult' ties to various big corporations, shall we?

⚡️🏳️‍🌈After Viktor Orbán’s government passed an anti-LGBT law to ban the Pride march in Hungary, Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony announced the city will officially organize Budapest Pride as a municipal event on June 28.

This means the ban won’t apply: police can’t disperse the crowd or issue fines.

Budapest has such an amazing and courageous mayor. Fighting for equal rights and freedoms for everyone, he has decided to organise the #BudapestPride on behalf of the municipality.

Preventing Orbán from refusing a permit, arresting or fining participants. Gergely Karácsony is a real democrat!
