UK gambling industry made £15.6bn in 2024 (£16.8bn in 2025)

Most companies holed up in Gibraltar & Malta, dodge UK taxes. Some pay corporation tax at the rate of 3%-4%. No VAT on gambling.

Public bears the cost of gambling addiction.

Firms resent paying extra tax to clear their mess.

Tax them.
UK's Online Gambling Industry: The £3.8 Billion Tax Question Nobody's Answering

Don't forget Gaza.

This is how the occupation has turned childhood in Gaza from a dream into a nightmare.

After more than two years of bombardment, displacement, and starvation, these children are now enduring the very same suffering for a third consecutive year.

Interesting article on how states emerged before agriculture and not as a result of it and how cereal crops were key to state formation.

The real reason states first emerged thousands of years ago – new research
New findings add weight to the theory that states didn’t just spring up from any kind of farming – it had to be grain.

The people powerful enough to make heads roll at the BBC are also telling us the BBC is anti-Israel. It isn't. It's vigorously anti-Palestinian, as film-maker Richard Sanders explains: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ROB...

Israeli group B’Tselem notes that, since a supposed “ceasefire” in Gaza, Israel has:

* killed 345 Palestinians,

* denied food to 70% of the population who need it,

* demolished a further 1,500 buildings.

All of this is in blatant violation of the agreement.

Should rule him out of holding public office ever again. This entire exercise is thoroughly compromised.

Given that the BBC endlessly gives platforms to lobbyists from the dark money junktanks without revealing their interests, shouldn't we be seeing such apologies every day?

Better still, how about not doing it? If they want to appear, we should know on whose behalf they are speaking.

Review judge pulled from Palestine Action hearing at last hour, in patent stitch-up
Having a ruling from a panel of three judges is a desperate attempt to create a veneer of judicial authority in support of the actions of Keir Starmer's outlaw government

Yet again this govt tries to solve a problem ( in this case an 80k backlog of cases awaiting trial) by choosing the most authoritarian option. A gift to Reform UK.

At present the issue is how to reinforce existing infrastructure or fortify shoreline, or relocate, Indigenous villages. In future decades major coastal cities around the world will face the same dilemma. Metres of sea-level rise are committed, even if we succeed in reaching net zero.

absolutely batshit insane for a government to drag out the fuel duty "freeze" (annual tax cut) even further
When can you declare an emergency over?

The 5p “emergency” petrol tax cut was introduced in March 2022, to offset a spike in prices

They are now about 30p down on that month, & about 50p down on the absolute peak
