thank you @greenparty.org.uk for refusing to accept modern authoritarianism

it was already clear that the youth has turned green, but that trajectory has certainly be solidified now

The govt’s decision to proscribe Palestine Action dangerously conflates direct action with terrorism, risking a chilling effect on free speech and protest. It also cynically lumps them in with two genuine extremist groups, and shamefully denied MPs a proper vote on each organisation.

Restorative Justice (RJ) is a way to address harm by asking two key questions: What happened? What needs to be made right? RJ focuses on the experiences and needs of those affected by understanding each person's perspective. We explore this in Section 12 of our Practice Guide: buff.ly/Fb3rhKp

Helen Wilson, from Wales is being called a 'hero' for livestreaming Kneecap's entire set at Glastonbury. Kneecap responded to her with free concert tickets

Helen told Metro UK & The Journal, it was the right thing to do in the name of 'free speech'✊

what you’ll prefer likely depends on the answer to this question:

is your priority (a) linguistic precision about causation or (b) pragmatic effectiveness in dialogue?

(a) = toxic masculinity
(b) = masculine toxicity

so not sure where i am

but bet ima try using (b) with defensive people
I know this wasn’t your point, but I actually love the reframing from “toxic masculinity” to “masculine toxicity”. It’s such a subtle thing, but to me it reads more clearly as “there’s nothing wrong with masculinity, there is something wrong with *that* (and it just happens to be masculine)”.

helen managed to stream the whole thing successfully despite a thumb burn and her phone overheating multiple times

she had a palestine action group shirt on, give her a follow if you can as she usually talks about women 40+ and their health 🥰

Honoured and grateful to have been part of this work of truth-telling around the ‘Tinker Experiments’. Credit must go to Gypsy/Traveller advocates and those survivors/victims who had to endure these injustices in the dark for far too long. An apology is only the start. www.abdn.ac.uk/news/24494/a

if you’re in a position of editorial power, you absolutely have a duty to use that power fairly

(and being mean is never fair)
got an article rejection this morning (fine) with some pretty mean reviews (not fine). sharing this + a bit of a convo with a good friend, to say - we all get rejected & if you're in the same boat, hi, sending hugs. and to also say, if you're an editor, please edit mean reviews, this stuff matters.

Farage and the far right in general come from a grievance culture. If you do what they want, even maximally – Brexit – they’ll move the goalposts and keep moaning. If you engage seriously with their concerns, they’ll find new ones. You will never satisfy them, because they don’t want to be satisfied
The problem with this ‘let’s weaken our commitment to the ECHR so as to fend off Farage’ plan is that when it doesn’t work, we end up with Farage *and* a weakened commitment to the ECHR at exactly the moment we need the ECHR the most.
