If you wanna help get this budget passed, show up to City Hall (121 N LaSalle) at 9am tomorrow and tell them in person!

If you're not available you can also email comments to [email protected] . Make sure to schedule them for between 8 and 9 am tomorrow.
NEW — With Mayor Johnson and a fraction of the Chicago City Council seemingly at an impasse, one question surrounding the budget debate is why some alders would choose implementing regressive fees on working people over taxing corporations.

Alternate Chicago budget from 26 alders leans on regressive fees. Why? • The TRiiBE

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

And none of this addresses why, in the Mayor’s proposal, Chicago Police will get 56% of the budget. The cops and corporations are literally robbing us blind & our government won’t do anything about it.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:

7. The ban on social transition—even with parental permission—underscores a shift in how anti-trans legislation is being sold to the public. For years, supporters of bathroom bans, sports bans, and “don’t say gay” policies framed their efforts as battles for “parental rights.”

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed disastrous cuts to our city's libraries while setting aside $5M for a ShotSpotter replacement. As library associate Sara Heymann told me, “Libraries embody everything we need to fight back against fascism.” My piece on what’s at stake and how to fight back:

You neglected to mention that the TA who has been suspended is trans so this is more than likely a directed attack on her to get her out of the position. The student is supported by TPUSA and the right wing response is specifically anti-trans.
