"What makes you think I brought you here to have a nice time?"--Mamie Fish.
I liked Obama as a human, and lord knows he's better than what we have. But I often found his admin more in love with its own mythology than the people it was supposed to govern. If a leader can't tell which way the wind is blowing, are they good at leading?

Shout out to the chic business lady traveller who wanted directions to our Chinatown arch this morning. I hope my warning that our Chinatown consists of approximately two blocks was helpful for expectations management.

Rory Gilmore had her studying tree. "My tree" is an ancient sycamore in Sunderland, MA, known as the "buttonball tree." I don't get to visit it, so I've also adopted one behind my apartment building that houses a murder of crows.

serge kovaleski once gave me a tour of a the old WaPo newsroom when i was a young PR grasshopper dropping off an envelope for a metro section piece. it was so thrilling to see legendary reporters in their element. heartbreaking to see these desks gutted.

I used to think he ruined my favorite SM feed b/c his feelings were butt-hurt by the criticism of him on it. Now I suspect his motives were far more sinister.

Oh good, millions of pages of redacted text to comb through. I do not envy the reporters covering this, but I do admire their tenacity.

Amazon is producing a web series on #regenerativeagriculture. They are asking experts to pay a fee to be featured. So if you see a special on Amazon about regenerative ag, understand those expert voices were actually bought. Who has the cash to afford these placements? Corporations with an agenda!

It's not the roads, it's the sidewalks! We live in a city; why are people pretending only cars count? I know about emergency vehicles, but the attitudes I have seen today just reinforce how oblivious businesses are to community needs. If you can afford a $1 million condo, you can afford shoveling!

Proposal that DC emulates Boston's smart snow farm model and dumps all the grey, icky snow in front of the White House.
In Boston, snow removed from streets is transported to one of six "snow farms" across the city where it is safely stored and allowed to melt.

Here's what one of those snow farms looked like in 2015.

Trump may be firing fewer cabinet members this time around, but he did recently hand a pink slip to his architect. Guess he couldn't get the Catholic guy to be the yes person he hoped for. This keeps getting messier and more chaotic!

In a year where Mormon women and trad wives dominated pop culture, DEI programs were cut, and there's an actual phenomenon called "Mara Lago face," this seems very...on the nose.

Spoiler alert, it's a fancy word for white!

Why I hate TikTok:

1. The people who post really obvious stuff that is news to them, assuming that b/c they didn't know something, everyone else must be equally ignorant.

2. Shit like this.

Your midface is fine. Go touch grass.
Are You Worried About Having a Long Midface?
Women are measuring the length of their faces — with some help from TikTok, of course — and posting hacks to “fix” what they see as a “problem.”

F*ck RFK Jr and fake "science"!

Other than the occassional migraine and hereditary anxiety, I am one of the healthiest people I know. I have never had COVID and I rarely get colds and flues. My mom was the poster queen for vaccinating her kid. Likely not a coincidence.
This tragedy was absolutely avoidable.

Fuck RFK and every antivax influencer. They are responsible for these deaths.
Third unvaccinated Kentucky baby dies of whooping cough.

Pertussis, best prevented with a vaccine, has killed three Kentucky babies in the last 12 months.

So far today, I have tried having quick, silly, lighthearted exchanges with two fellow Washingtonians. Both ended awkwardly. D.C, it's fine to be pleasant when a stranger talks to you in person. It doesn't mean you're marrying them or committing to a future selling Amway or something. Lighten up!

I can: set up a darkroom and process prints and negatives in it; delint a vinyl record; record content over a commercial cassette tape; burn CDs; look stuff up in a card catalog; make eye contact while having a conversation with a person over the age of 30.
