As I understand it, the ‘brains develop until they’re 25’ factoid simply means brains continue developing indefinitely, and 25 was the end point of the studies only because it was an age that everyone understood was well into adulthood. We need fewer credulous idiots giving credence to bigots.

I got an email from parkrun a couple of days ago like hey, it’s been a long time since you got a PB. And it’s like, I don’t think you appreciate what I have done to my body since then. This body will simply never run another 5k in 21:47, and that will remain my record until the day I die.

A little anecdote. I was stood next to one of the authors of one of these articles a few months ago, and was like ‘Ah great I’ve never met [] irl. Must have a proper chat.’ Unfortunately within about ten seconds of saying hello one of my colleagues had misgendered me so much I just had to peace out.

I observed over the summer that one of the best acts of allyship you can do for the trans people in your life is to take something off their plates. Having the state relentlessly grind you into dust does deplete your mental reserves.

I am currently so busy that I want to crawl out of my own skull.

This is one of the first things I mention when I talk to anyone about transition. Anyone who thinks people are being rushed through and pushed into decisions they might later regret is absolutely incorrect. Even going privately was a whole, long ordeal. Not to mention incredibly expensive.

But I understand you to be describing an ideal healthcare model. That necessarily means describing something hypothetical. And I also think ‘shift money from unnecessary psychiatric control to money for more endocrinologist time’ is a fairly practical idea.
