Counterpoint: curling is played in “teams” only because playing it individually would require being in good shape.
Team sports are fine.

There is a big difference between hockey or curling (where several people are working in concert to execute a task) versus relays where it's just stacked individual performances.

American Exceptionalism
Just like with Brazil arresting their insurrectionists rather than re-electing them, other countries are holding their Epstein-tied politicians accountable far better than we do. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Might as well re-post this alongside the piece I just re-posted.
I think at this point folks should judge the result of negotiations & the relative positions of the two countries economically & in the world.

I think it's weird to call the PM out daily on a process that clearly wasn't going to happen fast/well, & is with an entirely untrustworthy trade partner.

This is superb. Wayne Horton may have invented a new genre of journalism. This is a deeply informed, wonderfully enlightening essay on how to behave in bad faith negotiations, as well as a perfect reading of Carney's manner and thinking, and it's satire. It is explanatory parody. And it's right.

Ouch
The overall picture is shocking

In the 1990s, we saw PMs engage in both "carrot" &
"stick" approaches to Canadian federalism.

It would be something to see Carney pass a "residents of provinces that leave the federation are no longer extended Canadian citizenship" bill.

There would of course be a grandfathering period.

I've always had a soft spot for Stephen Harper, & I think this moment sums up partly why:
Following of the unveiling of his official portrait in Ottawa, former prime minister Stephen Harper delivers remarks on preserving Canadian unity and independence.

I don't recall simulating this scenario at Model-UN
At its headquarters in Geneva, signs warning of the situation have been put up everywhere. In an almost desperate attempt to save cash, the escalators are regularly turned off and the heating turned down.

That’s precisely what someone who was a threat would say.
