We turned our neighborhoods into surveillance panopticons to help Amazon get a foothold in thousands of law enforcement agencies, chiefly because it wanted to cut its annual shrinkage from package theft by a few percentage points.

Imagine what the QAnon/MAGA/Nazi response would be if a Dem admin unilaterally shut down a commercial airport and then, after reversing the decision, had no coherent explanation for what happened. We'd be awash in stories of chemtrails, vaccine-implanted microchips, southern invasion, etc.

On Polymarket you can now bet on how many people in a different market on Polymarket think Jesus Christ will return in this calendar year.

29% of bets say that more than 5% of bets in the Jesus Christ return market will be a "yes" 9 days from now.

Anyway everyone involved in this needs jailtime.

Ah yes, the classic Super Bowl party food for regular, normal people: yogurt. GTFOOH, weirdo.
RFK Jr on what he'll eat during the Super Bowl: "I am on a carnivore diet so I just eat meat and ferments, and I'm very happy with that. So I'm probably going to have yogurt."

Worth a re-read, especially as Bezos extinguishes one of the great American newspapers.

Jeffrey Bezos is destroying the Washington Post for the same reason Musk destroyed Twitter and Ellison is destroying CBS—oligarchs oppose the free press when if it threatens their wealth and power.

They don’t want normal people to see what is happening in America.

the Washington Post layoffs are awful in every regard. I am under no pretense that Trump-glazing collateral damage was intended as an intelligent biz decision. However, I want to address closing its sports desk.

If you want to do journalism that gets eyeballs, sports is the LAST desk to close.

the thing is, people already pay for journalism. as @pareene.bsky.social points out, that’s no small part of what they pay their ISP for: so they can access the news. none of that money makes its way to press shops or journalists, so we end up trying to survive on the margins of people’s budgets
How do you fix journalism?

Fucking pay for it.

Stop complaining about paywalls and subscribe.

The rise of right-wing media is because the rich funded it. The fall of legacy media is because the rich funded it and then decided not to.

With the closing of the Kennedy Center and the cuts at the Post, the Washington, DC metro area has lost its biggest arts institution and of its largest local journalism outlet.

Seriously, the Post without a Sports section and a gutted Metro section is ... not the Washington Post. They should be forced to rename it. "The Oligarchy Gazette" or some such.
If you're a DMV resident who still subscribes to @washingtonpost.com (print or digital), Bezos shitcanning the Sports section has to be the final straw, right? DC is a sports town.

Three rules in FBI firearm training:

1. Always point your weapon downrange
2. Do not point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot
3. Don’t put your finger on the trigger unless you intend to shoot

Guns are not for threatening compliance for unarmed people doing things you don’t like
happening this morning in Minneapolis -- ICE agents drawing guns on observers. I reiterate again that it is only a matter of time before DHS kills more innocent people in Minnesota. Congress needs to shut this shit down right now.

If you need a "smart" water bottle to tell you how much water to drink you are, in fact stupid. It's water. It's the one thing you cannot survive for long without. It's not hard. Just drink it, FFS.
“To establish how much water you should be drinking each day, LARQ asks for your birthday, sex, height, weight and activity level. You can also adjust this amount yourself.”
