Yes, when inflation was worse, people and reporters were talking about it more

Prices going down would be bad and all economists of all political stripes would agree bsky.app/profile/mtsw...

(posts a chart showing prices on groceries are at the highest point in history) you fool. You rube! How dare you say grocery prices are high! You can clearly see the second derivative... bsky.app/profile/kevi...

Inflation for food was legitimately much worse between January 2021 and January 2024 than it has been for the last six months, that's why
kevinwglass.bsky.social
Do you want prices to go down?
kevinwglass.bsky.social
You do not want a price drop. That would be very, very bad. bsky.app/profile/says...

The price drop is with Nathan’s friends.

However, if you are interested in media stories about coffee price increases, I have a very good media outlet for you to read

pulling 2% of the vote in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania in the last two Senate cycles would have made a big difference!

nefarious idea: lib donors fund a Mike Pence-ish third party to split the GOP from the right (Trump isn't hardline enough on abortion, gay marriage, Social Security) that either steals enough conservative voters or forces leading GOP candidates to take stances unpopular enough to push swing voters D
kevinwglass.bsky.social
Depends on how you think that party arises (the Dems move right, or the GOP receives internal competition)

I think this is a major problem with Bluesky
kevinwglass.bsky.social
I don't know if the MAGA people I saw putting pictures of a clean, nice Union Station on social media hadn't been there since 2021 or were just lying. it's been quite nice for a long time now!

The Newsroom sucks and you should feel bad if you ever liked that show. you - yes you, personally, reading this bluesky tweet - are the problem

Bari Weiss introduced herself to CBS News staff today on the network's 9AM call, saying she wants to "win," which requires restoring trust to CBS. She also said she was excited for staff to get to know the Free Press, and ended her remarks by saying: "Let's do the fucking news."

The joke I guess is the cause they're united in is "defense of the West", not "low taxes"
kevinwglass.bsky.social
I mean it's definitely not a joke that a bunch of FedSoc lawyers want to overturn Obergefell, and I don't think Weiss would be happy with that outcome. So I'm not sure what the "joke" would be, unless she doesn't think a large number of FedSoc lawyers actually want to overturn Obergefell!
kevinwglass.bsky.social
I think there's a distinction between a joke and a laugh line. This reads and sounds like a laugh line - ha! odd bedfellows in this room! - but it's not a joke. She clearly is happy to make common cause with a roomful of people who want to overturn Obergefell as long as they agree on whatever else!

It was a joke; NYT excerpt going around is misleading
dandrezner.bsky.social
There’s a lot in Bari Weiss’ 2023 FedSoc speech that merits scrutiny but I think the Times did a disservice by closing with this quote — given what she says immediately after. fedsoc.org/commentary/f...

SCOOP: Furloughed federal workers aren't guaranteed compensation for their forced time off during the government shutdown, according to a draft White House memo described to Axios by three sources.
Scoop: White House memo says furloughed federal workers aren't entitled to backpay
A move to deny backpay to up to 750,000 furloughed workers would dramatically escalate Trump's pressure on Democrats to end the shutdown.

I risk nothing? To use lefty parlance, you are a cishet man lecturing a queer person with a trans husband. I have a lot more to lose under fascism than you. My husband can get arrested for using a men’s room in some states!

If some Dems have to revert just to circa *2012* to win, they must do so.

It’s not an intellectually consistent position to say “We must do *anything* to stop the growing MAGA Fascism… except moderate on a couple issues where the left-wing position remains massively unpopular with normie voters.”

Refusing to do so comes from a position of quiet privilege.
volts.wtf
I have a lot of sympathy for anyone trying to deal with all of this [waves hands].

Nonetheless, as the genocidal rhetoric & state violence against Dems increases every day, there is something genuinely pathological -- worthy of psychological diagnosis -- about responding with "moderate, moderate!"

The Dan Goldman tweet this story is based on was incredible irresponsible. You need actual evidence to make allegations like this

There is no public evidence that this fire was arson and no public evidence that "MAGA" was at fault if it was arson. And using the passive voice in the headline does not relieve journalists of the obligation to make that clear www.thedailybeast.com/stephen-mill...
