A treatment has been found for a very specific cancer. It's cheap, safe, effective. 98% of the people who use it report vast improvements. Side effects are minimal and disappear when you stop using it. Our government has just banned it.

Wouldn't you be angry?

What if it wasn't for cancer?

Right wing ideology is at its core selfish. Every action and behaviour can be connected back to greed, money, power. You cannot strengthen a country by diverting all its resources to self-aggrandisement. More and more of those resources get diverted to maintaining the illusion of power.

#nzpol
Notice how hostile psyops and regime change attempts always boost right wingers? You never see attempts to weaken a country by installing left wing governments.

It's almost as if right wing ideology corrupts and debases any nation it's allowed into
Twitter had to turn off its location feature within hours because thousands of prominent and "verified" MAGA accounts turned out to be foreign and I think it's hilarious that Elon was the one who exposed them all

National has spent more on me to send this leaflet telling me I should be grateful, than they have in the last year on things that actually benefit my family, because I am not a landlord. Instead they give my taxes to industries actively trying to kill me, like tobacco and fossil fuels.

Holy shit, stuff. No. Clearly no. It won't work there either. It won't work anywhere. Unless by "work" you mean "bind people with crippling debt for even longer without reason.".

Actually I guess that works for them. Beholden to the 1% that Stuff are, they would absolutely encourage this.

#nzpol sound familiar?
Nothing like a proposal for a modest amount of lower-income housing nearby to find out who your neighbors are.

Next up: "Seatbelts are no longer mandatory, we're removing all the painted lines and giveway/stop signs, and public healthcare is being shut down. This is called "personal responsibility" and I was told by people with private jets and health insurance that it's great!".

OK so... this AI bubble. I'll be the first to admit the world of global finance is not my forte, but if I (personally) expect this whole thing to go very badly wrong soon, should I be looking to shift my kiwisaver manually from an aggressive to a conservative (or even cash-only) fund?

I was once again subjected to RNZ's "news" on my way to work. I figured Mamdani's win in New York would be top billing but it didn't even rate a mention. They'd rather talk about a cargo plane crash in the US and an old overseas abduction case that I can't even see on their website.

I heard about the CGT on RNZ on the way to work. They immediately went to Nicola Noboats and Rimmer for soundbites. Not to Labour, of course.

RNZ is openly batting for the proto-fascists.

Hey #nzpol Massachusetts has a population of 7.2m and a few more billionaires than us, but I bet we can still fund at least one of national's pointless roading projects with a tax like this.

They instituted a 4% (FOUR PERCENT) surcharge on income over US$1m.

But no, I guess we get to pay for them.
When Massachusetts passed a "millionaires tax" in 2023, conservatives claimed the rich would flee.

But two years later, they haven't — and MA has collected $5.7B for infrastructure and public education.

A reminder that positive change can still happen at the state level.

Hey NZ how we enjoying this weather? Wild, isn't it? Seems to be worse and happen more often than previous years, right? Almost like the CLIMATE has CHANGED and is continuing to do so. If only we could do something about that. Oh well. Anyway, let's release more methane!

How long 'till someone from nact1 suggests (seriously) that the only way to revive the economy and the job market is to reduce the minimum wage, without any attempt to do the math on what reducing people's already stretched incomes would do?

I'm picking within a month.

Hey #nzpol, does anyone have a good overview of who's cooker-aligned in the Hamilton City local elections? I recognise certain names from previous years and the anti-fluoride lobby but I suspect a good few are new and keen to stay under the radar and I don't want to rank one of those clowns.
