I was 11 in NZ and didn’t even really understand cricket but still remember the feeling of outrage and disbelief filling our lounge room. Learnt a quick lesson about lack of grace.

A tween prodigy who spent decades trying, 29-year-old Madison Keys breaks through for a long awaited major triumph, doing it with guts and gusto.

6-3, 2-6, 7-5 over two-time defending #AusOpen champion Aryna Sabalenka.

Gonna be a huuuugely popular winner in the locker room.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, I strongly recommend the livestream of the corpse flower at Sydney Botanic Gardens on YouTube. There are currently 1,500 people in chat waiting for a flower to open, and occasionally claiming that it definitely has moved this time.

If you don’t have a local library card, it should be your New Year’s resolution to get one. It’s an easy resolution to keep and you’ll actually use it, trust me.

Brilliant and true about the current, freefalling state of things, even if we wish it weren’t.

These extraordinary photos of the LA fires have been shared widely on social media, often without crediting the photographer.

These are all the work of Ethan Swope, an LA-based photojournalist working for AP.

We evacuated but have a live camera by a little fountain. Each time we check, we hope it’s not engulfed in flames. Many have not had the luck we have had so far.

This camera is catching many birds and some squirrels, rinsing off the ash and smoke, chirping and chattering. It’s the little things.

#AUSVIND Is high drama and so great but the commentary is hard to endure. Is there an alternative to Ch7 and even ABC Sport?

Hi BlueSky

Here's a post that's a bit of a Saturday night #MeetAndGreet for anyone who wants to drop by and meet new followers or read interesting posts or look at cat pics or . . . whatever.

Grab an adult beverage and post below, or just read and relax, but join in however you want.

Sends a chill down the spine that this clause is needed. Dystopian energies pervading the whole saga.
The Woolies warehouse strike is over--workers have voted to accept the company's new offer. On the Framework, per the union, a clause will be added “that ensures that the workers will not be disciplined for the speed that they can work at, and an acknowledgement that not everybody can pick at 100%”
A belated post on Bluesky, which seems to be a nicer place! My recent look at how Woolworths warehouse workers are being tracked and measured. They say many are under pressure to meet time standards that are unfair and unsafe: “We’re not robots, we’re humans.” www.theguardian.com/business/202...

This is in reference to the Marsden funding change announcement in NZ today but is also the most succinct summary of our current context. It’s old fashioned thinking to believe we all exist in distinct realms.
The real world is interdisciplinary. For example, climate change is a natural science problem with social science causes. There's no real distinction between "core science" vs "humanities and social science". Forcing one through policy is always a step backwards, and always means you'll be overtaken
I do not yet have a comment on this but I ask all New Zealand researchers and businesses read this and consider the full impact of this signal #nzpol www.beehive.govt.nz/release/mars...
