We infer the initial density profile of the dark matter halo of the Galaxy from the Gaia rotation curve, assessing the adiabatic compression that would be induced by plausible baryonic mass models. The data want a primordial halo with a core & rapid outer fall-off, unlike NFW as expected in LCDM.

A great long-term takeaway from my time at Stanford was their university policy of EANABs: for every college event with alcohol, equal $ had to be spent on Equally Attractive Non-Alcoholic Beverages, so it wasn't a choice between Fancy Cocktail vs Sprite. It helped both reduce stigma & pressure.
Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:
Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

My family are useful canaries of what news the public actually sees from astro, and only yesterday did my mum ask me about a study (one article of many linked below) who said they "trained an AI" to simulate the Milky Way.

Confusing stats language:
The "linear" is linear regression means "linear in the parameters".
It does not mean "can only fit straight lines", and things like polynomials and splines can be included in linear models.
