At some point, my relationship with "quickly checking social media" shifted from "seeing what my friends are up to at the moment" to "necessary microdosing of updates around the unspeakable horrors that affect my ability to live," and that's probably not great.

Great video on how most games don’t need a gameplay hook, they need to create an experience people want to play.

It’s like how lots of game trailers have title cards like: “harvest, prep, cook, plate, serve!” without ever stating a goal of say:

“Make your dream Taiwanese food restaurant!"

Sure Sonic's platformers were good, but let's be honest - the real reason I'm a fan is because our excellent UK comic was regularly coming out with face-melters like this. Imagine going from playing Sonic & Knuckles to having this beamed into your brain.
