An important thing about Mackenzie Scott's philanthropy is that all of her gifts are *unrestricted.* She often gives to smaller nonprofits where those unrestricted gifts can have a huge impact, allowing organizations to use the money where it's needed most, not just where a donor wants.

Ok here's something neat to me. I picked coffee cherries from a tree in my side yard and pulped, fermented, dried, and roasted them. I learned that coffee is hard work.

CONFIRMED: Eileen Higgins, a Democrat, will be the new mayor of Miami.

She'll be the city's first Democratic mayor since the 1990s. She flipped the office from Republicans, and does so easily. She leads the DeSantis-endorsed Emilio González 59/41 right now with most ballots counted.

I just saw that Ireland made its basic income for artists permanent and I have never been so jealous.

What must it be like to live in a country that actually values the arts?

I'm happy for all Irish artists and hope maybe this kind of thing will expand elsewhere.

I fully endorse this post, based on recent personal experience.
One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

Like a big shitty pie

When the student sends slop
That is full of fake glop

Anyone who scorns English majors can go to hell. I have one week of class left and TWO papers & a slide presentation to finish. My brain is tired from 16 weeks of literary analysis.

Studying English takes constant focus and the ability to always think on at least three levels at once. Iʻm cooked.

Heartbreaking and horrific.
One Haitian woman “showed up as scheduled, and when she arrived, officers were asking everyone what country they were from, and if they said a certain country, they were told to step out of line and that their oath ceremonies were canceled,” her attorney said.
They are now targeting people who did everything by the book and were literally at the ceremony where they were going to become citizens...

One argument I used to make to my students about why it was important to learn history (and historical thinking) is that someone was always going to be trying to tell you things were natural or had always been this way and that you needed to be able to see that as an exercise of power.
