I do sometimes like to add in small “luxury” food donations *in addition to* recurring cash donations, because my mom’s stories of just standing in the aisle looking at the olives she could not afford really stuck with me. So jars of anchovies, or fancy jam, things that feel like treats.

please give money and not food, it takes a not insignificant amount of time to sort and stock donations and money goes very far. also make sure you donate to a place that treats people with dignity and respect and allows access to anyone

as we reach the SNAP cliff just a gentle reminder to do-gooders that the most efficient use of resources is to contribute to organizations that are already established. unless nothing exists in your area (and it likely does whether you know it) now is probably not the time to stand something up

As a crier (hate it, wish I wasn’t) the amount of people who think crying is somehow more performative and manipulative is really wild. I’m not lesson professional because I cry instead of yell, or more emotional tbh!

one of the most common representations of autism in movies is the autistic person not making eye contact and a teacher/parent/caregiver insisting that they make eye contact. this is generally presented as teaching the autistic person to interact socially/to pay attention/to fully feel emotion.
