"folx" appeals to the sickos-yes.jpg part of my brain that also enjoys censoring the wrong word of compound obscenities, i.e. cocks*cker, m*therfucker, but I realize this is socially unacceptable and I'm trying to quit

Sharing because a) good baking tip! and b) I’m grateful for all the little kindnesses social media enables. People can be, and so often are, pretty great.
Forgot to buy bread. If I start baking now, will it have risen enough by 10:30 to bake? Or should I just try doing it in the morning?

…morning, I think. Dinner won’t be till late afternoon.

New go-to recipe in my never-ending contention between my love for cilantro and its unstoppable death wish:

Buy a bunch for whatever recipe calls for a bit, and turn the rest into cilantro pesto. Toasted pumpkin seeds, pecorino, serranos (with seeds), lime (juice + zest), salt, neutral oil.

all the people posting victim-blamey shit about how those national guard troops "should have refused to deploy" need to have their social media keys taken away

true, they absolutely should not have been there, but them being there isn't their fault. the buck stops at the resolute desk. foh.

@greene.haus I think she didn't mention the name on purpose so I don't want to ask in her mentions, but would you mind telling me which scholar Roxane is talking about?

The problem with ICE is not that it's targeting people who aren't criminals. The problem with ICE is that it's an unaccountable secret deportation police. It cannot be reformed under a better president. It can be made less terrible, but the instrument of repression remains for the next tyrant.

if these folks knew more about islam they’d probably find this comforting. a hardliner would not be gambling, even for penny ante stakes

but what am i saying. finding things comforting is female-coded

Are we still doing diner journalism? Because today at a greasy spoon in Stateline, Nevada, a 65 year old birder named Maryanne told me that she likes that “Mamdonnelly” fellow and thinks that Donald Trump is a pedophile.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Pro tip if you ever need to carry a lamprey
My only experience is with senescent lampreys and you can slap those fellas right onto your palm sucker-first and then carry them around with their built-in attachment point no problem (I suspect the senescent-and-therefore-no-longer-actively-feeding part is extremely important in this strategy)

This picture literally always makes me laugh out loud. Cavill's handsome, besuited, straight-spine obliviousness; Momoa's rapidly-approaching crouched goblin delight. They should show this picture in photography classes to explain what "the decisive moment" means.

This is *fascinating* and such a good rebuttal to American finger-wagging at China for its emissions. We have zero legs to stand on, here. (I would love to see what this looks like in the future as China continues its massive shift to green energy.)

I think Democrats should double down on trans rights now. It's obvious that most voters don't care about it so you might as well stick with your principles and goad Republicans into focusing on it at the expense of everything else so they're the ones who look like freaks.

color-correcting his skin this way is disinformation
Over many interviews, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Michael Scherer about how he plans to remake America’s public-health system. Can he lead the scientific establishment he’s spent much of his life crusading against?

most authors earn bupkis. how could stealing from them weigh less on your delicate conscience?
