One of the games I've been most proud to work on was Hardspace Shipbreaker! I was an environment artist so I got to make lots of fun low poly space items and areas including the nasty HAB kitchen!

Proposal: when an individual earns their billionth dollar, they are euthanized, gilded, and displayed as a trophy in the international hall of billionaires, as a monument to their achievement in life as a winner of capitalism.

Fun story! There was an RTO push before vaccines were available. We were told that we could ask to be excluded if we were uncomfortable. It took three meetings with HR where I was told that it was due to the suicide rate being up (???) and then I was put on a PIP when I refused to come back in.
Reminder: Jesse Huston was traveling around in 2020 and forced employees back in office before a Covid vaccine was even available!

Eat shit, Jesse! I hope this company dies too and people stop giving you money for studios. All devs should avoid this place

There are a lot of roles in game dev where someone bad in a role can do damage, but a bad producer can be so unbelievably damaging that it truly would be better to have no one in the role at all.

Just as good producers are force multipliers, bad producers are like throwing sand into a gearbox.
A good producer is absolutely an incredible force multiplier and allows the folks who are creating the actual artifacts to be more effective.

A producer beholden to methodology or who does not understand the needs of the game they're working, however, can do irreparable damage very easily.
I reposted this, and then saw some discourse in the replies, so here's my take: big games absolutely need managers and producers. In fact, as I've grown older, more of my time is spent on being a manager and producer. But I think the underlying sentiment here is: trust the people in the trenches.

If you're in Vancouver and think it's morally repugnant for a Canadian company to be signing contracts to support ICE "public relations," come join at 111 East 5th Ave at 3pm *today* to let @hootsuite.com know this is indefensibly vile.

You’re never gonna guess which half.
"Our standing rule is: If one of us brings up using GenAI in any of our work, then it's safe to assume we've been assimilated by The Thing and should be burned alive by Kurt Russell," said a game design consultant in the US.
Over 50% of game developers now think generative AI is bad for the industry, a dramatic increase from just 2 years ago: 'I'd rather quit the industry than use generative AI'
The latest GDC survey also found that managers are more likely to use generative AI than their employees.
