Acting though it's business as usual is a violation of their oath of office.
I have heard a bit about how a lot of members, such as @warren.senate.gov, are trying to keep their heads down on the big picture stuff so that they can get the gavels for their committees and then finally do good work.

And let me be the first to say that is dumb as hell.

Someday, someone will do a story about why the Pulitzer jurors never nominated, and the Pulitzer board never awarded, a prize to @jkbjournalist.bsky.social, the @miamiherald.com reporter who broke the bulk of the Epstein story.

If our democracy works at all, these people who swore an oath to our constitution are going to do exactly what we say, stop making up bullshit excuses for why its interrupting their corporate tested mumbo jumbo messaging, and do their jobs.

If they don't, what good are these people anyway?

Having been on the inside, I know exactly how to advocate. You are never supposed to cast aspersions on members, you are supposed to smile and say hello to their staff, you try to work with them and turn them from skeptics to advocates.

These people work for us! And their behavior is criminal.

His cabinet was confirmed because the Senate fast tracked all of his nominations in near record time. It broke modern records for fastest cabinet confirmed.

Chuck Schumer, Amy Klobuchar and Hakeem Jeffries literally planned Trump's inauguration.

This is what our tax dollars pay for? A member of congress to walk away from a catastrophe because a security guard told them to leave? They have their own police force!

And then the gaslighting about how they are fighting Trump when they keep handing him trillions of dollars without conditions?

Someone described to me what it was like when the members went to confront some of the DOGE kids after a rally. They made a big show of marching into one of the government buildings, some guy at the door told them no, and they walked away.

Apparently the DOGE kids were laughing out the window.

How is it at all acceptable to treat a government shutdown, where millions aren't getting paid and people are starving as some sort of weird messaging ploy for the midterms?

It's outrageous! And what the hundreds of thousands who are already dead because these idiots let some dweeb delete USAID?

In politics, especially national politics, you need to have a strong stomach.

You are often going to be confronted with choices that involve lives being destroyed if you pick badly. I have some empathy for decision makers.

But their behavior this year has been unbelievably next level.

I am so over "progressives" saying this stuff publicly. AOC is not paid 170k+ per year to be a pundit. She is paid to be a member of congress.

This is why this surrender isn't just about this narrow issue but is rather the whole constitutional ballgame:

Democrats are affirmatively signaling they do not want political power at the same time Trump is transitioning the political system into an autocratic one wherein they're denied it forever
Not that he didn’t already know, but now Trump knows for sure he can roll the Dems every time and there’s no need to negotiate for anything

The question is not whether to fund or shut down the government—it’s whether to fund or shut down this government

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.
