For ~ all of America’s history as a country after the Civil War, there’s been a huge demand on the part of the poor of the world to immigrate here, and there have not been much in the way of large exoduses from here. So, relative to the rest of the world, pretty good for the last 150 years?

We do that all the time? Alcohol is legal, the speed limit on the highway isn’t 25 mph, we don’t mandate sunscreen to go outside or ban backyard pools.

This could leave Israel in a better place in terms of security, but winning here is going to translate in to the psycho right having Israel go to war with Egypt and then probably Turkey, they aren’t going to rest on their laurels and consolidate.

Here’s where I’ve landed on that. Does most of the good without inextricably linking Trump to free money in the minds of voters or giving half a trillion free cash to the petite bourgeois in the form of PPP.

CARES Act should have been the superdole, aid to state and local governments, and a maybe a really stripped down, punitive version of PPP. Would have had almost all the utilitarian benefits of CARES and kept the economy from totally collapsing, without a ton of political benefits for Trump.

Yes. Much of the time uncertainty is high enough that you basically have to revert to deontology. But the sheer magnitude of suffering Trump 2.0 is causing, even beyond nebulous things like the end of the republic, mean that lots of bad stuff to prevent it would have been preferable.

The framing is different but it’s literally the same thing. The state takes less from me now due to my decision to procreate, and the slice non-parents give to the state isn’t fixed, but is made larger on net by the decision to give more money to parents.

“Give parents free money for having kids. No, more, more than that you miser. Who are you, Scrooge?” is the default here, so if people react negatively to that, maybe it’s a skill issue and the framing needs some work?

On the one hand, people react very negatively to any sort of talk about taxing non-parents more, but on the other, giving parents of minor children free money, and more free money for having more kids, at the expense of non-parents is like the most popular policy on here, so?
