which is ultimately why i doubt it'll happen. if it were they would be acting totally differently. unless they're insanely stupid, which is also possible.

if you tell people theyre fired and theyll never find a job again, it doesnt end with them saying ok cool and going home while you live out your cyberpunk tech-lord dream, it ends with charles-henri sanson showing your head to a crowd

the thing i dont really get about "AI will replace all workers in 18 months" shit is that would be terrible for the CEOs saying it. remember in 2020 when unemployment was 14% and we had the largest unrest in decades? a hard switch to 60%+ unemployment rate would get you that times one trillion.

i already like the name rose, started soft using it, then when i was getting ready to come out more thoroughly spent some time coming up with a big list of possible names and went back and forth for a bit, before settling back with rose.

AOC: "Extreme level of wealth inequality leads to social instability and drives authoritarianism, right-wing populism, and really dangerous domestic internal politics. That is a direct outcome of the failure of democracies over decades to deliver."

the way they released it right after reddit-gate so everyone would meld the two events in their minds was so insanely cynical its gross.
February 13, 2026 at 5:48 PM
it wasn't even that, the campaign released the tattoo info themselves! which makes these defenses of platner from "the establishment" trying to bring him down totally ridiculous. the establishment had nothing to do with it!
February 13, 2026 at 5:48 PM
yeah, i think id agree with that.
February 13, 2026 at 12:36 PM
i feel like that doesn't matter as much as it would've a couple years ago.

this is a fair point, but i also dont think aoc has to exactly worry about fundraising given how effective she is at it

people on the left, who either campaigned explicitly, or implicitly, to not vote, do not care about trans rights--and to be frank, that includes many trans people.
February 12, 2026 at 8:12 PM
it has become pretty clear over the last couple of years that many people who claim to care about us are actually not all that interested in what can be done to protect us, and just want to score points, while at the same time actively undermining those protections by encouraging voter apathy
February 12, 2026 at 8:12 PM
i am so exhausted with how we get used in the discourse. we are a population with discrete and clear needs. we are not a stick that can be cynically deployed, feigning to care about us while in reality ignoring the mechanics that actually lead to our rights either being respected or trampled

i do think it doesnt really matter though. maybe 20 years ago, but not in a world where just some rich guy can get elected. i mean more people know who she is than most of the senators/governors being put forward

i wasnt necessarily arguing theyre comparable. theyre obviously not.

lincoln on the other hand served a single term in the 1840s and didnt hold office again until he was president, but gained fame through his debates with Douglass during the 1858 IL senate race (which he lost)

yeah garfield was in the house for about 20 years and had slowly built up a name for himself and benefited from being a dark house at the convention.

It’s not merely that Trumpism excuses gender violence it’s that men’s violence against women and girls is frequently an expression of Trumpism, and vice versa.

Later this month, voters in Maine will fill a vacant state legislative seat. The district is competitive—it sided with Harris in 2024 by just four points—and a GOP win could threaten Democratic control of the state House.
