the good news is that once you clock 70 or so hours the addiction diminishes somewhat. not completely, but it goes from like an 11/10 intensity addiction to a 7.5/10 one. I'm down to a very manageable 1-2 hours a week on this now

I keep telling my kids that I'm old enough to remember when people treated yellow lights at red lights and now a light turns red and you count yourself lucky if the third car in line bothers to stop for it

To expand on this, I’ve come to the belief that it’s impossible to spend any time driving without taking moderate-to-severe psychic damage from the accumulation of interactions with other drivers that make clear how selfish everyone has become. I *never* feel better after driving.

Watching antisocial driver behavior in the school drop-off line makes it really clear that the pandemic destroyed whatever few shreds remained of the social compact, just pathological selfishness on display every day
