I'm reading The Crisis of the Old Order to start my year off right (Schlessinger pre-Kennedy sellout is fairly unmatched) and not to be a "history repeats itself" guy but wow in a lot of ways we are really just doing the 20s over again but all at once and dumber

I am by no means suffering the worst of the current regime, and I really don't have room to complain. That said, I am so fucking stressed about going back to the classroom on Monday. Like ICE Agent or dipshit with his dad's gun, my policy regarding my students remains "you go through me first"...

I think it's interesting how much discussion of religion in the popular sphere focuses on like "good people go to heaven bad people go to hell" because I don't think that anything like that was ever actually said to me in church

yes. has been the pattern since his first term but especially starting in the 2024 campaign. as the real trump falters, they hurriedly cut away and replace him in their reporting and discussions with a fictional trump who says and does more reasonable things than the actual man does
This is the wild part about the whole Trump experience, even when he says politically disastrous things, reporters rush in to fill in the blanks and steelman his arguments. As soon as they cut away from him saying “we’ll run it,” they cut to someone saying “obviously he didn't mean that.”

Actually society is much better off by forcing me to teach 20-30 kids at a time about the constitution and US history than leaving me free to write endless variations of "Moby Dick but about Good Tammany Hall (maybe in space)" that will never be published. That may just be a me thing though
