SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

I’m reading the advance listening copy of “The Gales of November: the untold story of the Edmund Fitzgerald” by @johnubacon.bsky.social on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Fitz’s sinking in Lake Superior - thoroughly enjoyed his book on the Great Halifax Explosion during WWI

Other than recommending Poirot, which I am reading chronologically, I highly recommend the very accessible “Poet, Mystic, Widow, Wife: the Extraordinary Lives of Medieval Women” by Hetta Howes. Probably my favorite read all year.

Another fast listen via @libro.fm - “The Mystery of the Blue Train” by Agatha Christie. I like comparing the books with the adaptation from the David Suchet Poirot series, and this one had a lot of differences as well! A good deal happens in the books before Poirot even appears!

My parents live in Indiana. I clench when I cross the state line. I feel like progress has regressed as soon as I cross. I am also v. angry with my Alma mater (IU) in the current climate!
